Introducing E-Class - Enterprise ClassSBC-Session Border ControllersThis is Part 1 of a many part series on SBC's and their role in both carrier (provider) and customer premise equipment (CPE) locations. There are so many features; a comprehensive analysis would fill a large book. Also, each feature can be inter-dependent on other features and breaking down these elements is a more useful approach. The following is a chart or rather the beginning of a chart which will be expanded as this analysis goes forward.
SO WHAT - Most people want to know "why" they need to know something before they will do it. The simple answer is that until you know what's going on, you cannot provide QoS or Security to name two. I spoke on an OCS call today and if I was the CEO I would ask for the name of the person who implemented and tell them, the next time that kind of awful "clipped" call occurs, it will result in an RGE-resume generating event. That is, until you know it all, then keep your resume close.
Today, we begin with ALG or Application Layer Gateways. ALG operate at Application Layer (5-7) Gateways are proxy
servers that operate at the Application Layer 5-7 (Session-Presentation-Application)
of the OSI-Open Systems Interconnection model.
Operating at the higher layers, give ALGs more control over all aspects
of data processing. In case you need a refresher on OSI, here it is.
An ALG often makes two connections -
internal and external. These separate
connections give additional access control.
Thus, the ALG processes authentication on behalf of the machines on the
internal and external network. However, when compared to traditional packet
filtering there is additional CPU-Central Processing Unit ALG processing
(overhead) time.

An ALG provides Stateful
Packet Inspection Firewall* - Layer 3 (IP
Layer 3) & 4 (TCP/UDP) and Application Level Gateway (ALG)

Control List (Black & White) based on Source IP Address and Port - Protocol (SIP,
data, etc.) and Packet-size - Steady State
and Burst Traffic Rates*Stateful
inspection is the process of the router reviewing before packets before they
are converted to IP and maintaining the state of the connection by allowing or
disallowing packets to pass based on the Access Policy (Port number-mail, web,
file transfer, etc, Source IP Address, Destination IP Address, and other
variables such as Applications-specific data types-video, text, audio,
etc.). Thanks for AudioCodes for continuing assistance in the preparation of this analysis.

Get Real - Live Meetings "Better Than Being There"
For more than 30 years, I have been literally
around the world seeing video teleconferencing systems. Two days ago I saw
something that was innovative, effective and engaging. I call it LMT-Live
Meeting Technology.
Key Benefits
Eye-to-Eye and "Real Life" - LMT systems align
the camera at the eye level of the participants through the usage of a patented
display system incorporating a special image technology. Other systems that place the camera outside
of the image area are not capable of achieving this alignment and therefore do
not have true eye-to-eye contact. Seriously can you tell this is not live?
Lifesize interaction - This system achieves true depth of
field without the usage of special glasses by generating a life-size image of
the transmitted participants that appears physically in front of a backdrop.
The 3D TelePresence systems deliver an astonishing sense of presence within the
three dimensional setting of the room for natural communication.
Total CODEC Interoperability - all of the "Real
Life" systems are universal to accept cameras and codecs from the major
manufacturers. In this way the LMT solutions can meet international standards
for communication with all video conference systems globally.
FREE
- Tele/Skills Communications Solutions In the spirit of this concept, I am excited to help promote the concept of
"Live Meeting Technology." With each system, you will receive at no additional charge, onsite one full-day
of training from "award-winning" industry experts.
The training class includes - Introducing and Integrating Real "Live" Meeting Into Your
Organization
Topics included are:
- Setting the Context for Meetings
- Project Initiation
- Guide to Successful Meetings of Any Kind
- Enhancing Communications
- Roles and Functions of Participants
- Beyond Communications, Move Minds, Not Matter

Get SIP Smart
Proxies are signaling - Media servers are content
"The SIP/VoIP courses are more than a superb primer on VoIP/SIP technology; they are an indepth business plan for a VoIP/SIP implementation. In addition, the VoIP/SIP diagnostic and troubleshooting guide is the most thorough approach to VoIP QoS available. I need information that informs but does not overwhelm. Information that guides but not drives you away. The courses provide insights and actionable information that has helped me get the technology we need sooner but saved me a considerable amount in understanding what we didn't need. The SIP course especially is a valuable one which provides much needed information in a readily understandable format." Paul Daubitz - President - ATI-TeleManagement
All Students in SIP Planning Guide Course will receive this New Cisco SIP Trunking Book (published 2-4-2010).
SIP Trunking is one of the first complete books to planning, evaluating, and implementing high-value SIP trunking solutions. Most large enterprises have switched to IP telephony, and service provider backbone networks have largely converted to VoIP transport. But there's a key missing link: most businesses still connect to their service providers via old-fashioned, inflexible TDM-Time Division Multiplexed trunks. Cisco® authors show how to use Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunking to eliminate legacy interconnects and gain the full benefits of end-to-end VoIP. Written for enterprise decision-makers, network architects, consultants, and service providers, this book demystifies SIP trunking technology and trends and brings unprecedented clarity to the transition from TDM to SIP interconnects. The authors "separate the true benefits of SIP trunking from the myths and help you systematically evaluate and compare service provider offerings. This book includes detailed cost analyses, including guidance on identifying realistic, achievable savings." SIP Trunking also introduces essential techniques for optimizing network design and security, introduces proven best practices for implementation, and shows how to apply them through a start-to-finish case study. Some of the concepts explored in the book are · Discover the advanced Unified Communications solutions that SIP trunking facilitates · Systematically plan and prepare your network for SIP trunking · Generate effective RFPs for SIP trunking · Compare SIP deployment models and assess their tradeoffs · Address key network design issues, including security, call admission control, and call flows · Manage SIP/TDM interworking throughout the transition · This IP communications book is part of the Cisco Press® Networking Technology Series. IP communications titles from Cisco Press - SIP Trunking book by Christina Hattingh, Darryl Sladden, ATM Zakaria Swapan was first published February 4 - 2010. |

MCS Forum is also designed for both the system integrator/consultant who wants to learn about MCS without having to build their own system as well as the enterprise customer who doesn't have the time, resources or knowledge to develop one. MCS Forum Labs are designed to be "hands-on" or "over-the-shoulder" with experts available for Q&A and classes for feature-specific review. About MCS Forum MCS Forum is a vendor-independent laboratory environment designed for learning, technical guides, knowledge resources and online "live" services.
