Mayor Bloomberg recently released his proposed budget for the FY 11 Fiscal Year which begins on July 1, 2010. Within his budget, he has proposed a $312,000 reduction in funding for Queens Botanical Garden. This is on top of more than $250,000 in cuts from the last two fiscal years, totaling a loss of more than $564,000 in less than three years!
As a friend of the Garden, you are well aware of the importance of this urban oasis amid the hustle and bustle of Queens. If these severe cuts are implemented, the Garden will be forced to lay-off more staff, reduce operating hours and eliminate programs for children.
These are steps which we hope we can avoid, but to do so, we need your help. Please contact your local NYC Council Member, Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Mayor Bloomberg and ask them to restore funding for Queens Botanical Garden and all of the cultural organizations throughout New York City. We need your help today to prevent these devastating cuts. Please take action today to preserve Queens Botanical Garden for now and for the future.
