Greetings!
St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.
St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace. |

Stewardship
I encourage each of you to embrace your opportunity to participate this year during our Parish' Every Member Canvass. Every one of us has their story. Every one of us has a gift to be shared with others. Every one of us is here, called by God, to receive His Gifts with Gratitude and to share our gifts with others in Generosity.
Our Stewardship Theme this year is "Feasting on Giving, Gratitude and Generosity" and is based on a six-week reflection series based on the Gospel teachings of St. Matthew. We have chosen our logo - which you have probably noticed hanging in our Parish Hall - as Manna from Heaven. A symbol of the Holy Eucharist since the 4th Century, the symbol of Manna from Heaven is used in our context to visually express the Gifts of God to his people and to each other. We are called to receive God's Gifts with Gratitude and be Generous in sharing those gifts with others.
This year our Every Member Canvass will kick off on Sunday, September 9th. Michelle Waterloo, David Silvas and Elizabeth Dennehy will be sharing their personal reflections and insights with our Parish as we move through the Campaign. I thank them for their participation during this process.
May God richly bless each of us as we undergo this vital mission at this time, in this place with what we have.
Thank you.
Clint Gray
Stewardship Chair

New Catechism Class Forming
On Saturday, 8 Sept. the new Catechism Class will begin for those interested in being Baptized, Confirmed, Received into the Episcopal Church or Parishioners wishing to renew their vows. The course commitment is a weekly class each Saturday morning starting with a 10am Mass; the process leads up to a retreat and culminates at the Great Vigil of Easter with the Bishop. Graduates have a deeper understanding of themselves, their relationship with God and with the Parish community.

2-Hour Parking on Sundays!
The City Council has confirmed our earlier success before the Transportation Committee and voted to adopt the resolution as it was reported out of the Transportation Committee; thus, the new parking restrictions on Gardner Street are as follows:
No Parking Anytime Except
Sunday through Friday
2-Hour Parking
8am to 7pm
The new signage will not be posted for at least 90 days; however, the City has assured us that parking enforcement will not ticket those cars parked on Gardner Street on Sunday (for two hours or less) during the 8am to 7pm time period.
Unfortunately, this does not address the Saturday parking problem. We continue to work vigorously toward a long-term solution to address all of our parking needs.

Did you know in the Jewish faith:
1. The religion of the Hebrew Bible was based on the Temple in Jerusalem, the land of Israel and the Davidic dynasty?
2. When the Temple was destroyed in 70 AD, the three pillars of Judaism became the Torah, the 5 books of Moses, as well as the interpretive tradition; Avodah (worship and prayer) and Gemilut Chasadim (acts of loving kindness)?
3. There are 613 commandments observant Jews are meant to follow?
4. There are four New Years in the Hebrew calendar?
Rabbi Suzanne Singer of Temple Beth El, who will be leading the discussion, is actively engaged in social justice work, serving as a member of Inland Congregations United for Change Clergy Caucus and a former member of the City of Riverside's Human Relations Commission.

The Guibord Center's mission is to bring people together to challenge assumptions, unleash The Holy and affirm the faith that transforms the world.
