Greetings!
St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.
St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace. |

Parking Update
This week we received notice from the city requesting a public hearing before the City Council's Transportation Committee on the renewal of the parking restrictions. The date for the hearing is still to be determined. We will continue to keep you updated and will distribute information on the hearing as soon as we receive it. One of the many approaches we are employing is a petition signed by St. Thomas parishioners opposing the renewal of the parking restrictions. Beginning this Sunday, we will have the petition in the back of the church for all petitioners to sign. All Parisioners may sign. Please, however, write you name and address legibly so that your signature will be considered valid. Thank you for your patience as we try to resolve this issue.

Bl. Thomas Ken, Bishop of Bath and Wells, Nonjuror, Hymn Writer, 1711
Blessed Thomas Ken was an Anglican bishop, hymn writer, royal chaplain to King Charles II of England, and one of seven bishops who in 1688 opposed King James II's Declaration of Indulgence, which was designed to promote Roman Catholicism.
In 1688, King James II reissued his Declaration of Indulgence for the second consecutive year. Though it seemed to promise toleration for Protestant dissenters, it was actually intended to win them to Roman Catholicism. Bl. Thomas Ken and six other bishops not only refused to publish it in their dioceses but published instead a petition against the order. Imprisoned in the Tower of London and tried for sedition, the bishops were subsequently acquitted. Despite the dispute, he remained loyal to James during the Glorious Revolution, when William of Orange sailed from the Netherlands to England with an army to aid the Protestants. James fled the country, and William and Mary were crowned monarchs in 1689. For his refusal to swear allegiance to the new regime, Ken was deprived of his office in 1691 and spent the remaining 20 years of his life in retirement.
His hymns include "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow", "Awake, My Soul, and with the Sun" and "Glory to Thee, My God, This Night".
We commemorate Blessed Thomas Ken this day with a Low Mass at 7pm.

On This Day in Church History
On this day in 1794 French revolutionaries replace Christianity with a deistic religion honoring a trinity of "Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity." They renamed churches "Temples of Reason," a new calendar announced a 10-day week and holidays commemorating events of the revolution. The "reign of terror" followed with some 1400 people losing their heads. Napoleon recognized the church again in 1804, then proceeded to imprison Pope Pius VII.
