Greetings!
St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.
St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace. |

A Note From Fr. Ian Ellilott Davies
Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
I have been deeply moved by all your kindness, gifts, cards, flowers, plants, messages and patience since I became ill with a major depression on top of a rather nasty viral infection and dehydration a few weeks ago. My parents arrived and have been taking superb care of me as I was admitted to hospital and now I am attending Kaiser Permanente as a day-patient (soon to become an out-patient!) - words cannot express my deep appreciation of the Parish's Adminstrative Staff, Officers, Vestry and Bishop Glasspool along with the supply Clergy ably led by Deacon Johnson, S.C.P. and Father Ledbetter, S.S.C. You have all been so exceptionally kind, thoughtful, generous and have demonstrated the love of Christ in the most incarnational manner. I take this opportunity to express my gratitude, love and prayers for the Summer months and I look forward to seeing you all again in the not-too distant future.
with my love, prayers and gratitude,
Fr Ian Elliott Davies
-------------------------------------------------------
"I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; ... for God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; that ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be ... filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God."

Feast of Thomas
Thomas the Apostle, also called Doubting Thomas or Didymus (meaning "Twin") was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is best known for disbelieving Jesus' resurrection when first told of it, then proclaiming "My Lord and my God" on seeing Jesus in John 20:28. He was perhaps the only Apostle who went outside the Roman Empire to preach the Gospel. He also crossed the largest area, which includes the Parthian Empire and India.
According to The Passing of Mary, a text attributed to Joseph of Arimathaea, Thomas was the only witness of the Assumption of Mary into heaven. The other apostles were miraculously transported to Jerusalem to witness her death. Thomas was left in India, but after her burial he was transported to her tomb, where he witnessed her bodily assumption into heaven, from which she dropped her girdle. In an inversion of the story of Thomas' doubts, the other apostles are skeptical of Thomas' story until they see the empty tomb and the girdle. Thomas' receipt of the girdle is commonly depicted in medieval and pre-Tridentine Renaissance art.
When the feast of Saint Thomas was inserted in the Roman calendar in the 9th century, it was assigned to 21 December, although the Martyrology of St Jerome had a mention of the Apostle on 3 July, the date to which the Roman celebration was transferred in 1969, so that it would no longer interfere with the major ferial days of Advent. 3 July was the day on which his relics were translated from Mylapore, a place along the coast of the Marina Beach, Chennai in India to the city of Edessa in Mesopotamia.
St. Thomas the Apostle will celebrate our Patronal Feast on Sunday, July 3, 2011 when we welcome back Bishop Mary D. Glasspool. Following the 10:30am service all are welcome to join us in our annual Parish Bar-b-que.
