Greetings!

St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition.  We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.

We have begun recording and distributing the Sermons.  This is a vital part of our ministry and outreach.

In just two short weeks the viewership of the sermons exceed the capacity of the Church itself.

After experiencing the sermon during Mass watch it online and find new and wonderful nuances.

The videos are available at a number of online locations:  St. Thomas Website,  You Tube Channel (please subscribe!) and Facebook (please "like" us!)

Rector's Corner

Fr Davies

We were all saddened to learn of the death of Fr Howard Happ on 27th March- a good number of Parishioners from St Thomas the Apostle attended the Pontifical Requiem at St Nicholas of Myra Parish, Encino on 3rd April to pay our respects and honour to a kindly, devout and affable Priest and Canon of our Diocese. Many of us remember with great affection Fr Happ's presence with us on our 'High Holy Days.'

Personally I recall Fr Happ's presence and devotion at last year's Good Friday Veneration of the Cross extremely profound and moving- he was so frail and fragile at that time but also so devout in his Anglo-Catholic convictions that he insisted on making the full triple-genuflection to the Cross.

I encourage all of you as we now enter the last week of Lent before Holy Week and our Paschal liturgies commence to join with us for the many opportunities in prayer, meditation and worship.

With my love & prayers,

ied sig

Fr Ian Elliott Davies

Lenten Series concludes Tues

Father William Ledbetter (Assistant Priest) is leading the annual Lenten Series this year.  The series occur on Tuesdays following the 7:00pm Mass.  A soup supper is generously and graciously provided by a generous Parishioner.

Exploring  the  Spirit of the Liturgy
Fr Ledbetter"Prayer is at the center of our worship and binds us together as a community of faith.  St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. "

Those words are at the beginning of the email [ePrayer] I get each week reminding us that the essence of St. Thomas the Apostle and our chief aim is the Mass where we come together to worship God.  All that is good and beautiful and loving about our community is formed and nurtured in the liturgy of our Church.   This liturgy is unique in many ways to St. Thomas, yet it is drawn from a rich tradition in the Universal Church and also from our particular Anglo-Catholic, American and even Hollywood setting.

This final Tuesday will be a consideration of how our liturgy brings us into the presence of God and how Heaven is made present in our midst in the liturgy.  We will examine the worship of the heavenly Jerusalem in the Apocalypse (Revelation) and how our liturgy mirrors that of Heaven.

Hope to see you there.

Japanese Archbishop message

Anglican Episcopal Church of JapanArchbishop Nathaniel Uematsu of the Nippon Sei Ko Kai, the Anglican Church in Japan, has issued a message to the Anglican Communion following his visit to Sendai two weeks after an earthquake-triggered tsunami devastated the region, claiming more than 11,000 lives and leaving at least 16,000 people still unaccounted for.

In his message, written in Japanese and translated by staff at the Anglican Communion Office in London, Uematsu said he visited Sendai Christ Church, the cathedral in the Diocese of Tohoku, on March 27 "and saw that parts of the walls had fallen down, the walls were cracked. It looked to me as [if] the whole building was lopsided. On the floor of the cathedral there were various piles of goods sent from churches in different parts of Japan such as foodstuff, fuel and clothing."

Because of the frequent aftershocks following the magnitude-9 earthquake on March 11, members of the church council have decided that it is too dangerous to use the cathedral for worship and they are holding services in a nearby church hall instead, Uematsu explained.

"Due to the continuing aftershocks, some people go to bed fully clothed, wearing shoes. There are those who have not slept at all since the earthquake and look exhausted."
