CPC 2010 Census Outreach
census
CPC is partnering with the 2010 U.S Census Bureau to reach out to the Chinese communities of NYC and have as many people be counted in the census as possible.  The census helps the federal government allocate funding for social programs and plays a role in determining the amount of political representation the community receives.  CPC will be reaching out to the home-bound, multi-family residents, immigrants and many more to help them fill out their census forms and be counted.

To date, CPC's branch offices (Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens) have provided over half a dozen workshops and presentations educating the public about the Census and its importance to senior centers, community centers, schools and more. Additional workshops/presentations will be continued to be scheduled throughout the coming months at PTA meetings, community events, and community associations. In addition, CPC staff and volunteers will distribute flyers to heavily trafficked areas including the subway, parks, restaurants, and local businesses.

31st Annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Festival
api
The Asian/Pacific American (A/PA) Heritage Festival is a yearly Pan-Asian community festival with music, performances, food, and family fun.

A/PA Heritage Festival started in 1979 with a deep understanding of the fragility of immigrant populations in accessing state and local resources. Oftentimes, the best of these community resources were under-utilized because there is no efficient way to communicate the availability of these resources to their constituents. Many community members did not know about the resources available to them--whether they are language centers, educational facilities, child services, legal, medical, or vocational.

Volunteers realized that was easier to have a great celebration and have people come out and spark dialogue than entering communities to distribute resource directories.

This year the A/PA festival will be on Sunday, May 2nd @ Union Square Park East 14th Street between Broadway and Park from 12pm to 6pm. CPC will have a table that will showcase all of our programs and upcoming events and opportunities. Please contact Elijah Black @ eblack@cpc-nyc.org or (212) 941-0920 ext.146 to be part of CPC's mobilization for this event.
