Summer Day Camp P.S. 153 Carnival
|

On Friday, August 7th, 2009, CPC held the Summer Day Camp 2009 Family Carnival at the P.S. 153 School Yard at 1970 Homecrest Avenue from 9:30am- 1:00pm. The carnival was a fun-filled event jam packed with family friendly games, sports, activities and giveaways. By hosting a day of fun in the sun, the CPC Summer Day Camp at P.S. 153 hoped to encourage communication, interaction, and cooperation within the diverse Homecrest community. CPC sponsors both the After-School Program and Summer Day Camp at P.S. 153 School of Music, located in Brooklyn's Homecrest neighborhood. Homecrest is a diverse community that contains Asian, Latino, and Russian immigrants in addition to Russian-Americans. At P.S. 153, these populations regularly come together towards a common goal: to maintain a safe, nurturing, and compassionate environment in which their children may thrive. The 2009 Family Carnival was meant to continue this tradition by providing an opportunity for community members to strengthen their bonds and have fun together.

Beacon Family Day Fair
|

On Saturday,
July 25th, 2009, CPC held the
Beacon Family Day Fair at I.S. 220 from 11:00am-3:00pm. The
fair was a fun-filled family-oriented event complete with rides, games,
live entertainment, giveaways and raffles as well as health screenings. The fair had approximately one thousand attendees. By
providing a day of family fun, the Beacon Family Day exposed the diverse
members of the Sunset Park community to the various social services provided by
CPC.
CPC's Brooklyn Branch is
located in Sunset Park, a diverse neighborhood where Asian American and Latino
communities come together. Recently CPC Brooklyn moved from a busier Eighth
Avenue location to a more residential one. CPC Brooklyn wants to make itself more known within Sunset Park and re-establish its
presence. This family day fair aimed to do just that by entertaining children
and making available services known to parents.
In addition to promoting the services that CPC offers, organizations such as AmeriGroup Community Cares, United Senior Center of
Sunset Park Inc., Coalition Against Anti-Asian Violence (CAAAV), The Asian American Legal Defense Education Fund (AALDEF) tabled at the event. The day ended with a speech from Brooklyn
Borough President Marty Markowitz and announcements of the winners of raffle prizes: dvd players, an iPod nano and a digital camera.
