Greetings!

Just an abbreviated version of the newsletter this month. I've been furiously working to get out some paintings for the inaugural West Austin Studio Tour, so I haven't had much time to do anything else, but I did want to keep you in the loop.

I hope you are enjoying this lovely Spring weather!

Best,

Christine

So, it has been a busy couple of months trying to balance jewelry making and my latest obsession- encaustic painting. I've been dabbling for a while, but after agreeing to help my good friend Holli Brown host a spot during The West Austin Studio Tour, I really had to step it up a notch. I'm still not where I probably should be, but as a wise person once said. "It is what it is."

WEST is this weekend, May 19th & 20th
Peach Granitaand studios will be open from 11am to 6pm. If you can, stop by #149 to see my new work as well as some beautiful mosaics and jewelry by Holli. She is located in the fab Crestview neighborhood where 15 other studios are just around the corner. Here are couple I'd like to see:
  #151 Lisa Eisenbrey
  #156 Terrell Powell & Friends
  #150 Chris Chappell

We'd also love it if you helped spread the word about the Tour as well. It's the first year for WEST and we want to help make sure it continues.

freeArt ATXfreeArt give away

I wanted to let everyone know our freeArt project went off without a hitch. We got all the art off to good homes and raised some awareness about the importance of quality art education. Thanks
so much to everyone who took the time to send in some art for the cause. We really appreciate it!

Bottle Cap Tops

This is a quick and fun project that could even be put together as an on-the-go DIY kit. It's sure to keep kids entertained for at least 3(0) minutes. All you need are some plastic caps, toothpicks, and a pin or small nail. Find out all the details in this tiny tutorial.

Peaches are in season right now in Texas. Honestly, I'm not in love with the furry fruit, but removing the skin and adding a bunch of sugar makes it quite delicious.

Peach Granita

Ingredients:

4 ripe peaches, peeled and chopped
1/2 c. water
1/4 cup sugar, more if needed
1 T. fresh lemon juice
coarse salt
2 t. finely chopped basil (optional)

Directions:

Puree peaches, water, sugar, lemon juice, and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a blender; add more sugar to taste. Transfer to an 8-inch-square baking dish. Freeze for 2 1/2 hours, scraping with a fork every hour (mixture should be icy and fluffy). Stir in basil.
