Greetings!
It happened again--I blinked and it's December. In part that's a function of age, but mostly I think it's because I'm lucky enough to have work that I love. I just want to take a moment to thank you so much for your part in that. I am truly grateful for your continued interest and support. I hope your holidays are peaceful, relaxing and filled with love. Best, Christine |
holiday shows
December 1 - 24, 10 am to 10pm
Open every day this month from 10am to 10pm, there is no excuse to miss this awesome holiday show. If you're looking for a gift the recipient will love for years to come, head to the Marchesa today. Seriously, where else can you find giant, articulated brass doodlebugs? With over 125 artists this year--this is your go-to spot for local, late night and luscious holiday shopping.
December 10 & 11, 10am to 5 pm The little Cherrywood Art Fair is all grown up. In it's 10th Anniversary year they have significantly expanded the show to over 100 artists. Not only is CAF a great place to find locally made gifts, you also get to hear some great live music and help support several school programs by shopping the awesome silent auction. Don't miss this gem of a holiday show. If you're unable to make either of these shows and find yourself in desperate need of a little handmade something for someone on your gift list, feel free to get in touch with me. I'll be around through the holidays and am happy to work with you through email or have you stop by at your convenience. |
pin up
The last few months have been hectic in new and (mostly) exciting ways, but it has cut into my blogging time. Plus, now that I've found Pinterest, I realize much of why I blog revolves around trying to keep track of things that interest me, which is what Pinterest does with the click of a button. Fair warning, the desire to "Pin" everything you come across can be it's own version of a time-suck. However, I love how easy it is to save, categorize and organize images and ideas I find while surfing online. I'm probably not quitting the blog, but I know my upcycle-y boards are going to be updated way more regularly. If all this is already old news to you and you're already a Pinnin' fool, let me know so I can keep track of all your great discoveries! Happy pinning!

act up
I know, I know. This breaks the act up rules by not being upcycle-y, but I love this update to the holiday craft classic--salt dough. All you need is flour, salt, water and time. Oh, and some great rubber stamps and fine lined pens.

eat up
I found this recipe years ago in Saveur magazine. We've made at least one batch almost every holiday season since. Some of you who made it to the early days of the Cherrywood Art Fair may even remember them as the sweet treats we gave out at our booth. These are a true taste of days gone by.
Sugar Plums
Ingredients:
2 c. whole almonds
1/4 c. honey
2 tsp grated orange zest
1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1 c. finely chopped dried apricots
1 c. finely chopped pitted dates
1 c. confectioner's sugar
1. Preheat oven to 400°. Arrange almonds on baking sheet in single layer and toast in oven for 10 minutes. Set aside to cool. Chop fine.
2. Meanwhile, combine honey, orange zest, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg in a medium mixing bowl. Add almonds, apricots and dates and mix well.
3. Pinch off rounded teaspoon sized pieces of the mixture and roll into balls. Rinse your hands often, as mixture is very sticky. Roll balls in sugar, then refrigerate in single layers between sheets of waxed paper in airtight containers for up to 1 month. Their flavor improves after ripening for several days.
