RISE Austin, March 7 - 11
This event is billed as a non-profit program geared toward entrepreneurs, but the extensive list of sessions reveals a little something for everyone. Friends who attended a few talks during last year's RISE came away inspired and ready for new challenges. Sessions are free and open to the public and I've already registered for a couple. Maybe I'll see you at one?

step it up
I've had an Etsy shop for some years now, but it's only recently that I've started to feel more confident about the whole process. There are lots of little details that need to be right--like good photos and telling descriptions--and it's always been a bit daunting. Etsy has changed some of their processes and I've figured out a bit more about what makes sense for my work. That combo has inspired me to set a goal of getting 100 pieces listed by the end of the month and to continue to add pieces going forward. If you have any thoughts about my shop or Etsy in general, I'd really appreciate your feedback.

One of my favorite things to do is listen to TED talks while I'm finishing jewelry at my desk. I've learned a ton of interesting things and found whole worlds I had no idea existed. A recent fave is this one from Sheryl Sandberg

It has taken a while, but I've now figured out one way to offer special prices to loyal adaptive reuse followers. I'm working on a few other fun ways as well, but for now you can expect that each month I'll have a few pieces available through my blog on the "monthly specials" page. South By Southwest is just around the corner. One of the many things going on is a little pop-up shop at Caffe Medici right on the drag. A collection of Etsy artists will be there on Wednesday, March 16 from 10 to 5. Stop by, have a cuppa, check out the hipster scene and pick up a springtime treat for yourself. In honor of National Peanut Month I'm passing along a delectable recipe for of one of my favorite soups. (Slightly more complicated, but worth the effort is this version from Emeril.) If you're in Austin and feeling a tad lazy, check out the delicious version offered up at Austin Java. African Peanut Soup
2 tbsp plus 1 teaspoon peanut oil 1 tbsp curry powder 2 med onions, sliced (about 4 cups) 2 tsp minced garlic 2 lg sweet potatoes (± 2 lbs), peeled and cut into chunks 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth 1 (28-ounce) can whole tomatoes, drained and quartered 1 pound ground turkey 1 teaspoon salt, divided 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1/4 teaspoon cayenne 1/2 cup chunky peanut butter 1/2 cup coconut milk
Heat 2 tablespoons of peanut oil in a large Dutch oven or stockpot over medium-high heat. Add curry powder and cook, stirring constantly for 1 minute. Add onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 2 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Stir in sweet potatoes, chicken broth and tomatoes, and bring soup to a boil. Simmer, covered, 20 to 30 minutes.
In a large skillet, heat the remaining teaspoon of peanut oil. Add the turkey and cook, stirring with a wooden spoon to break up any clumps until cooked through. Season with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Drain on paper towels. Add cooked ground turkey, the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, cayenne, peanut butter, and coconut milk to the soup, stirring to combine. Bring mixture to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes.
