East Austin Studio Tour Nov 13 & 14, 20 & 21
It's just around the corner and my house is a mess and the yard is a wreck. Stop by to see if I've managed to transform them both in time for E.A.S.T. Other than the domestic issues, I'm excited to be hosting Lee Anne Gardner and Holli Brown. The house and yard will be filled with enough upcycled goodness to prevent you from seeing the stray dust bunnies!

psyched up
I recently got word that the folks working on the Austin Creative Reuse center have filed for their non-profit status. I'm super excited about all the good things this center will mean for Austin. Modeled on other centers around the country, the ACR facility will be a collection and redistribution point for all sorts of useful but under-appreciated materials. Think fabric remnants; unused swag; scrap wood, tile, or metal; film; vinyl; cable. Almost anything you can imagine. If you work for a business or institution that discards interesting and possibly useful items, be sure to let me know.

worked up
I'm teaming up with some of Austin's best artists and craftspeople to create Hand Delivered--a traveling group trunk show direct to the workplace. That's right, we'll bring our gift-priced goods to your offices for quick and fun shopportunities during the busy holiday season. If you or any of your friends work in a place that might be a good fit, please let me know. It's going to be a great way to make life simpler for some people and support the local economy at the same time.

Upcyc led Sweater: Pullover to Cardigan This is a short but inspiring little tutorial. If you have some old sweaters you've been hanging on to but not wearing, it's for you. My crochet skills are pretty much nonexistent, but this project motivates me to learn at least a few of the basics. From Julie-k.

lighten up
The holidays are upon us. I don't know about you, but delicious holiday food is a huge weakness for me. I've heard from a few customers, that my Get Healthy ring is really helping them to focus on making better choices.

eat up
I've been trying to introduce one new veggie a week at dinner. We've been pretty consistent, but the kids aren't always psyched about it. Surprisingly, Kale has been fairly well received. So far the favorites are the two simplest recipes. Perfect!Sauteed Kale Ingredients 1.5 lbs young kale, stems and leaves coarsely chopped 3 T olive oil 2 cloves garlic, finely sliced 1/2 c. vegetable stock or water Salt and pepper 2 T red wine vinegar Heat oil in large saucepan over med-high heat. Add garlic and cook until soft, but not colored. Raise heat to high, add stock and kale and toss to combine. Cover and cook for 5 min. Remove cover, continue to cook, stirring until all liquid has evaporated. Season with salt and pepper to taste and add vinegar. Baked Kale Chips1 bunch (about 6 ounces) kale 1 T olive oil 1/2 lemon, juice Sea salt, to taste Preheat oven to 300°F. Rinse and dry the kale, then remove the stems and tough center ribs. Cut in large pieces, toss with olive oil & lemon juice in a bowl then sprinkle with salt. Arrange leaves in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Bake for 20 min., or until crisp. Place sheet on a rack to cool.
