Message from the Sunray Peace Village

This is going to be a very exciting year at the Sunray Peace Village.

The Adawee Temple has been completed, with new hardwood floors, and new shrines.
The Cherokee Ceremonial Cycle is held throughout the year. All are welcome! Please download our annual calendar for a complete listing. Here are some key dates to look for:
- March 13 - Friends Making New Ceremony
- April 17 - Blessings of the Seeds Ceremony
- May 15 - Early Planting Ceremony
- June 12 - Late Planting Ceremony
- August 7 - Green Corn Ceremony
- September 11 -- Ripe Corn Ceremony
- October 9 - Harvest Ceremony
- (Note from links that dates were different last year, as it is a lunar cycle. Final ceremony dates will be announced on the blog as the dates approach.)
The 26th Annual Elders' Gathering will be taking place July 30-August 1.

In addition to the Cherokee ceremonies and teachings, it is an auspicious year for the Buddhist presence at the Peace Village. For more on that, please see below!

Consecration of Vajra Dakini Nunnery

September 11-12, 2010

H.H Drikung Kabgyon Chetsang Rinpoche

Please join us in celebrating the consecration of the first Tibetan Buddhist Nunnery in North America on Sept 11 &12, 2010.

His Holiness Drikung Kabgyon Chetsang Rinpoche, supreme head of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage, will conduct the consecration of Vajra Dakini Nunnery and the White Tara statue and temple. Attendees will be offered an empowerment of White Tara, the healing and long-life female emanation of Buddha.

You are welcome to help us prepare for this event by:

Sponsoring H.H. Chetsang Rinpoche, his entourage and the monastic dignitaries
Helping on the White Tara Shrine raising weekend (date TBA)
Painting the retreat cabin for H.H. Chetsang Rinpoche
Landscaping (windfall trees) and gardening
During the event: driving, ushering, cooking and serving

In addition, in July, on a date to be set, the White Tara Shrine will be placed at the Peace Village. On September 9, HH Chetsang Rinpoche will visit the Peace Village. We will keep you informed.

(The Vajra Dakini Nunnery is located 1/3 mile down the road from the Sunray Peace Village. The plan is to eventually build a new nunnery at the Peace Village.)
