Leadership Columbus Alumni Lunch with Congressman Westmoreland
Congressman Lynn Westmoreland was the guest speaker at the Leadership Columbus Alumni Quarterly Lunch Series on May 2. Westmoreland addressed the group regarding his early years in the state legislature and the challenges he faced being in the minority. The focus of his presentation was leadership and doing the right thing. "Being a leader is about doing the right thing and it isn't always easy. But I guarantee you, if you do the right thing, others will follow. And if no one is following you, then you aren't a leader", Westmoreland stated.
The Alumni enjoyed the opportunity to meet Westmoreland personally and were able to ask some tough questions regarding the economy and government regulations.
Leadership Columbus Alumni is a program of the Chamber. If you are graduate of Leadership Columbus and you want more information regarding the quarterly luncheon series, contact Becky Gordon at bgordon@columbusgachamber.com.

Govenor Deal Signs Bills at National Infantry Museum
Gov. Nathan Deal signed three bills in Columbus in the National Infantry Museum with Columbus' state delegation and Fort Benning representatives looking on. The governor's signature on the Interstate Compact Bill will make it easier for children of military families to transfer from one school to another. He also signed a modified Purple Heart License Plate Bill that will allow veterans or active-duty soldiers to receive free special plates. These were important bills to Fort Benning and a priority on the Chamber's Legislative agenda because of the importance on future BRAC rounds. Two interchanges were named in honor of former Columbus Mayor Jim Wetherington and John Flournoy, chairman of the Gateways Foundation. These bills were high on the Chamber's legislative agenda passed by the Board of Directors.

Inter-City Leadership Conference Visiting Oklahoma City in September
Oklahoma City, A Premier Site for Canoeing and Kayaking
What was once nothing more than a drainage ditch in downtown Oklahoma City, but with some clever redesign, is now a river, abundant with all types of water sports. Along its shores stand the beautiful boathouses that are considered to be a vision for the future of OKC and the rest of the world. The Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce, along with approximately 90 of our community leaders will be heading to Oklahoma City to learn about how the city has developed this area into a Mecca for water sports and recreation. The 19th Annual Inter-City Leadership Conference will be held Sept. 26-28, 2012.
If you are interested in participating in our Inter-City Leadership Conference, contact Becky Gordon, 706-257-1186 or bgordon@columbusgachamber.com
