msaColumbus MSA July Unemployment Drops to 9.6%

The unemployment rate for the Columbus MSA dropped in July to 9.6%, down from 10.2% in June. Most of this is due to the hike in June that came with graduates entering the workforce. These numbers validate that most found work rather quickly consequently authenticating that the economy is picking up steam. This jump solidifies the great works going on in Columbus and the surrounding areas.

In addition, the state reported 10.4% unemployment for the month showing yet again our area is one of the hot spots of the state.

Thank you to our Premier Sponsor

Charlotte, NC. USA
20 Years of Thinking Regional

If anyone needs confirmation that the Charlotte regional economy is looking up, just take a note from Southern Business & Development's top 100 projects in the South that create at least 200 select service or manufacturing jobs and/or invest $30 million. According to SB&D, the Charlotte region rose to the top as 2011 Major Market of the Year.

The number of jobs and amount of private investment announced during 2010, shows the Charlotte regional economy is in the process of recovering. This success helped lift North Carolina to a second-place showing for jobs and investment on a per capita basis. The Charlotte Regional Partnership has reason to be proud of its accomplishments.

To learn more how this regional approach to economic development has helped to boost Charlotte's economy, join us for our 18th Annual Inter-City Leadership Conference, Sept. 28 -30, 2011. For more information, contact Becky Gordon, bgordon@columbusgachamber.com or 706-257-1186.

Business One Stop Shop

Susan Cooper
@ Centennial Realty & Mortgage

In planning to open my business, I contacted the Business One Stop Shop at the Chamber in 2007. My BOSS Counselor provided me with a road map of all the steps to opening a business. The Chamber helped me turn my vision into reality. Centennial Realty & Mortgage Company, Inc. will celebrate its second anniversary in November 2010. We could not have put all the pieces together so quickly without the help of the BOSS.

(For start-ups & small businesses) Anyone who has started a business from the ground up has become quite familiar with the interior of the local office supply super-store. And why not? It's a great place to go for all your tangible office supply needs. But what about the numerous intangibles?

The Columbus Chamber of Commerce has got you covered! Business One Stop Shop for start-ups & small businesses has been an indispensible resource to those hardy souls looking to forge their own path.
