Inter City Leadership Conference set to go to Charlotte, NC
Our reasons for choosing Charlotte were many. One of the reasons being our chamber visited Charlotte for its very first inter-city leadership conference trip.
It was 1994, Columbus had passed a one percent sales tax and we were in the middle of preparing for the 1996 Olympic Fast Pitch softball venue. It was decided that we as a community needed to look to other successful cities to assess what they had done to improve in many areas, such as, education, quality of life, economic development. Several of the results of that first trip were:
- The Valley Partnership was formed and patterned after the Carolina's Partnership.
- The City of Columbus purchased four uptown blocks of property after observing the success of the Charlotte effort in downtown revitalization. A major uptown campus for the nationally-recognized TSYS company was subsequently located there.

So you have been skipping networking events? Read this testimony
"Just a note to express how much I enjoyed yesterday's breakfast," said Ron Culbreth, sales executive, Bell Media. "I have attended such events in at least three other markets and none have been as professionally produced - it was seamless! And, as a newcomer to Columbus, it was a tremendous networking opportunity. I have no doubt that we made profitable connections."
"Per our conversation, I attend to become deeply "embedded" in my new community," Culbreth. " I believe firmly that one should "pay civic rent" to the community from which one draws a livelihood and I intend to do that in great part through involvement in this amazing chamber."

Read the blog posts and the more than 70 benefits of the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce
Work Ready Certification
Sue Hall @ Eastman Kodak Company
Communities awarded Work Ready certification have a competitive advantage over non-certified communities because they can quantify an available skilled workforce to an existing employer or a new business considering Columbus as a new location. During the recent expansion at Kodak Columbus, we recognized applicants with Georgia Work Ready certificates, and also incented current team members to earn Work Ready certificates through a grant opportunity we learned about during a Chamber Eye Opener Breakfast Program. Thank you, Columbus Chamber of Commerce, for actively supporting the effort to achieve recognition in the Chattahoochee Valley as a Work Ready Certified Community and a Work Ready Region for Advanced Manufacturing. Georgia Work Ready is clearly a great regional workforce and economic development tool!
Every company aims to hire and retain the most skilled workers. That has also been the case at the city and state level since the advent of Georgia Work Ready, an initiative that seeks to improve the job training and marketability of the state's workforce at the municipal level.
Through a rigorous skills assessment and certification, Georgia Work Ready identifies the available skills of Georgia's workforce and directs them towards the most pressing needs of local businesses.
The Columbus Chamber of Commerce will help you use that information to ensure your business finds the proper people for the proper jobs.
