Welcome! When wintry weather is topmost in our minds, it's nice to recall warmer and sunnier days. Here's a photo I took at the Cancer, Culture, and Literacy Conference in Clearwater Beach FL last spring. As always, thanks for your ongoing health literacy interest and advocacy. Here's "What's New" in Health Literacy Consulting. |

Health Literacy Out Loud (HLOL). These audio podcasts are a way to listen in on my conversations with those in-the-know about health literacy. Here are the latest HLOL podcasts: HLOL #52: Reach Out and Read: Encouraging Literacy and Health Literacy from Childhood On. It was my great pleasure to interview Dr. Perri Klass who is the National Medical Director of Reach Out and Read. In this podcast, we discuss: - How this program encourages early literacy and reading aloud.
- Why it is important to address literacy in well-child pediatric visits.
- The intersection of literacy, learning, and health from childhood on.
HLOL #51: Using Comparative Performance Data to Improve Healthcare Quality. Barbra Rabson is the executive director of Massachusetts Health Quality Partners (MHQP). In this podcast, she talks about:
- How comparative performance data helps providers and consumers.
- "Expect the Best," a consumer campaign focused on healthcare quality.
- Strategies and tips for climbing the "mountain of mutual understanding."
HLOL #50: Communicating about Health with Older Adults. In this podcast, Dr. Carolyn Speros discusses:
