Offering Relevant Products and Services to Attract Underbanked Members -
Part II
Effectively marketing your credit union's culturally relevant products and services is just as important as offering them. Successful strategies for serving the Hispanic community combine community outreach, advertising, public relations and partnerships with businesses, schools and non-profits. Having bilingual personnel, offering financial education sessions and holding community events are also part of a winning strategy.
If the unbanked do not come to the credit union, bring the credit union to the unbanked. "Employer partnerships, such as prepaid payroll card programs, increase the likelihood of recurring deposits and positive balances. Opening educational branches at local high schools enables financial institutions to educate future consumers about the value of a financial relationship and recruit future employees who know the community's culture and language," suggests the Banking Strategies Executive Report: "Serving the Underbanked - Your Own Customers." Is your credit union nurturing successful Hispanic community partnerships? (Missed Part I? Click here!)
