Is Financial Education Part of your Product Offering?
Oftentimes credit unions overlook financial education as a key service to offer Hispanic members and, instead, will jump right into offering products such as remittances and credit builder loans.

fin edWith so many unbanked and underserved Hispanics in the U.S., there is a huge demand for your credit union to provide the financial education to help them manage their finances and prepare themselves and their families for the future.

With so many resources already available in the industry, you won't need to start from scratch. Here are several tips and resources available to help you incorporate financial education into your Hispanic outreach efforts:
  • Have Spanish materials available in your lobbies for both adults and children. (Check out this bilingual kid's activity book.)
  • Partner with a local business or organization working with the Hispanic community to deliver a session on financial education and the credit union difference.
  • Group product offerings with financial education. For example, when creating marketing materials for your credit builder loan, include information about what credit is and how to maintain good credit.
  • Submit financial education focused articles to your local Spanish newspapers. Many newspapers are in need of content and will publish your information free of charge and give the credit union exposure at the same time.
