On Thursday January 20, the Maryland Energy Administration decided to invest $1 Million of federal stimulus money into the Maryland Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program through the creation of a 35% mail-in rebate for air sealing and insulation work up to $3,100.
- This rebate is in addition to the Pepco, BGE or Allegheny rebate programs that give 15% rebates.
- This rebate is in addition to the 2011 Federal $500 tax credit, and any other local programs.
In other words, you can get over 50% back in rebates and tax credits for taking action on energy efficiency in your home. To get this rebate, you must use a qualified contractor, and the contractors recommended in ecobeco's audit reports are qualified. This program is reservation-based and is first come first served. There is $1M available, which the State estimates should cover about 750 homes. Here is what you need to do. 1. Visit http://energy.maryland.gov/homeperformance/ and download the forms you need to fill out. The "Checklist" is very helpful. 2. If you already have your audit report, you need to print it out in hard copy. If you have not had an audit yet, schedule one now by visiting http://www.ecobeco.com/schedule or call us at (240) 396-2141 x2. 3. You need a signed contract for work again in hard copy. Work with your contractor to make sure the contract is itemized to meet the requirements. 4. You need to fill out the "reservation form" that explains how many dollars you are requesting. Your contractor can help you. 5. You need to sign the terms and conditions page. 6. You send the completed package to the address on the reservation form, and in 2-4 weeks you will get either approved, put on a waitlist, or rejected. If you know that you want to do this work regardless of the final price, then you can start work immediately. You don't need to wait for your reservation approval. If on the other hand, you only want to do the work if you get the rebate, and the rebate is rejected, our honest, high-quality contractors will let you out of your contract. If you are not sure, you should wait until you get the answer from the rebate reservation office. You can apply for a rebate for work installed on or after January 1, 2011. You just need to follow the same process as everyone else. After you obtain your reservation, you can move immediately to get a free test-out from ecobeco. We offer free test-outs for all of our customers.
This program is a great opportunity for you to do a little more than you might have originally budgeted for, and to allow you to obtain deeper energy savings and comfort improvements for your home. If you have questions about the program, feel free to call the ecobeco office at (240) 396-2141 x2.
