In this issue you will learn ITI scholarships and transportation are still available, IADDA receives funding news and nominations are being sought for the Cebrin Goodman Center Prevention Award.  The first ITI app is available free for download in the App Store, and includes everything you need to know about ITI this year. Download it today and bring your mobile devices to ITI. We'll use the app to play some fun games and talk to each other throughout the week. |
BElieve in YOUrself: ITI 2012 Update
The Illinois Teen Institute still has scholarships available for participants! If you are interested in coming, please fill out and complete the application and send it in as soon as possible to: IADDA, 937 S. 2nd St., Springfield, IL 62704. Make a note in the scholarship section that you are interested in a sch olarship from IADDA. If you have any questions, contact CJ Cavazos at 217-528-7335 extension 12, or at cjcavazos@iadda.org. Applications are online at www.os-iti.org. We are also organizing a bus schedule to transport participants to and from ITI. If you have any questions regarding the bus schedule, pick-up or drop-off locations, or if you would like to express your interest in using a bus for transportation, contact Pel Kelley at 217-528-7335 extension 10, or pthomas@iadda.org.
ITI for high school participants will be held at Illinois Wesleyan University from July 22nd-26th. For middle school participants, ITI will be held July 22-24th at the same location. Registration for both high school and middle school participants will be Sunday, July 22nd at 1:00 PM. Staff training will be held at IWU from July 20th - 21st. Staff registration will begin Friday, July 20th at 2:00 PM for New & Youth Staff and 3:00 PM for Veteran Staff. Here's a sneak peak at the general session speakers:

State Funding Awarded
IADDA is pleased to announce that we have been chosen by the Illinois Department of Human Services to receive a SAPP grant FY13 for both Operation Snowball and the Illinois Teen Institute. We look forward to begin planning and providing you with opportunities to participate in trainings and events to strengthen your prevention efforts. Cebrin Goodman Center Announces Inaugural Prevention Award The Cebrin Goodman Center, an affiliate of the Lillian and Larry Goodman Foundations, recently announced their inaugural Lillian and Larry Goodman Award for Excellence in Drug
Abuse Prevention. The awards ceremony and symposiu m will be held at Roosevelt University on October 11, 2012 at 3 pm. The event is co-sponsored by the

Cebrin Goodman Center and Roosevelt University's Illinois Consortium on Drug Policy.
The Cebrin Goodman Center has granted millions of dollars to local and national teen drug abuse prevention programs. The Center's primary mission is to spare families the pain of losing a loved one by educating teens, parents, and communities about substance abuse.
The purpose of this award is to applaud an individual who has made a significant contribution to the field of substance abuse prevention among adolescents and young adults. Nominees should be innovative, forward thinkers, and demonstrate outstanding initiative in creating, developing, and delivering substance abuse prevention programs. Professionals, private citizens, and students are welcome to apply. The recipient of the Lillian and Larry Goodman Award for Excellence in Drug Abuse Prevention will receive an award of $10,000.
To nominate someone for this award, download a nomination packet that outlines the criteria for the Lillian and Larry Goodman Award for Excellence in Drug Abuse Prevention. The deadline to apply for the award is July 13, 2012.
Please also save the date of October 11, 2012 for the symposium that will accompany the award ceremony. This year's theme is "addressing stigma." CEUs and CPDUs may be available.
Author and Chicago Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg will deliver the keynote speech and share his own struggles with alcohol, followed by a panel discussion with a team of experts on substance use, abuse and stigma. The panel discussion will include the following individuals:
- Peter Palanca, moderator, Vice President, Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC) and IADDA Board Chair
- Sara Howe, CEO, of the Illinois Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Association (IADDA)
- Dr. Celeste Napier, Professor, Department of Pharmacology at Rush University and director of the Research and Recovery Center for Compulsive Behaviors and Addiction
- Terry London, Assistant Director, Chicago Institute for Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy
- Neil Steinberg, Writer, Chicago Sun-Times and author of the book Drunkard: A Hard Drinking Life

NEW from SAMHSA Preventing Suicide: A Toolkit for High Schools The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has developed a free resource to assists high schools and school districts in designing and implementing strategies to prevent suicide and promote behavioral health. Includes tools to implement a multi-faceted suicide prevention program that responds to the needs and cultures of students.
