She Met Elvis... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The military instrument that I used was the Operations Order. The instrument included the following components.
- Situation
- Mission
- Execution
- Administration
- Logistics
- Command
- Signal
One of my ROTC instructors provided a phrase that allowed me to quickly recall the components of the Operations Order.
She met Elvis and later committed sin.
Following is an explanation of the Operations Order.
- Situation (She)
- What is happening?
- What is the problem, need or opportunity?
- What is driving the problem, need, or opportunity?
- Mission (Met)
- What do we want to accomplish?
- What are our deliverables?
- Why are we doing this?
- Execution (Elvis)
- How will we accomplish our objectives?
- What is the sequence of tasks to be completed?
- Who is responsible for doing what and when?
- How will we coordinate the execution of tasks?
- How will we monitor and communicate our progress?
- How and to whom will we communicate issues and problems we encounter?
- How will we resolve issues?
- What is our back-up plan?
- Administration (And), Logistics (Later)
- What support do we have?
- Who or what functions are providing the support?
- Who are the points of contact for providing and coordinating the support?
- Command (Committed)
- Who is the leader, person responsible for ensuring the accomplishment of the objectives?
- Who are the other members of the leadership team and what are their responsibilities?
- Who will communicate changes and adjustments?
- Signal (Sin)
- When will we kick off or start the execution of the mission?
- How will the start be communicated to the team and individuals impacted by what we are doing?
