The month of December flew by with great events throughout the region. I personally spent most of the month in the Boston area competing in two men's events and as a spectator to incredible platform tennis at the Great Boston Women's Open. Congratulations to Amy Stiga & Jessie Glidden who came away with the victory. I have to say that the semi final and final match that I saw was some of the best I've ever seen. You can see full results on the APTA website listed below.

 

So, here comes January and we kick right off with two really important tournaments. Kitty Palmer is hosting the Madison (CT) Women's PCQ event on January 9th and Jerry Albrikes is expecting a full draw at the Boston National NRT & PCQ event on the same day.

 

The Madison Racquet & Swim Club's platform tennis courts have been resurfaced, refurbished and are ready for play. The Boston women's tournament set the bar for record player attendance. Let's see if you can raise it again in Madison. You can sign up for the Madison event on the APTA website or contact Kitty Palmer for more information.

 

Plans are underway for some of the top men's teams in the northeast to compete at the Boston National event. I've just been informed that your ability to order sized shirts when registering ends tomorrow, Tuesday. So if you want your size, you better sign up today. And if you're in Brookline MA on the 9th but can't play in the tournament, you should stop by the Country Club around 3:30 or 4:00pm for what will be the best paddle in New England in years. And if you're not quite ready for a National Ranking or Presidents Cup Qualifying event, there are two really fun tournaments for everyone on January 16th. The women will be in Norwich, VT for the inaugural Green Mountain Women's Open and the men have the Essex (CT) Men's "B". Not to soon to sign up for either because I've heard both have been filling up. Contact Leslie Potter for the Green Mountain and Jamey Burns for the Essex Men's "B".

 

Planning ahead? The last women's PCQ event is January 23rd is at the Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton, MA. Sandra Duryea is the Tournament Director and the application for this event is on the APTA website. Then the month of January closes out with what promises to be two great tournaments for the "B" generation. January 30th is the date for another inaugural women's event, The Nor'Eastern Ladies "B" Tournament hosted by Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead, MA. Dan McCormick, one of the greatest guys ever, is running this event. And what would the season be without the Greater Hartford Men's "B" hosted by the Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford, CT. Once again, Gil Keegan & Courtia Worth will do their magic and run one of the best men's "B" events in the country. And guess what? The application for both these tournaments can be found on the APTA website!
