      Let's Go To DC
      November 6th!
      STAND AND BE COUNTED

If interested please reply by the end
of the day Friday the 21st

The next mass action regarding the Tar Sands Keystone XL pipeline is an attempt to encircle the White House with people, beginning at 2 PM on Sunday, Nov. 6.  This action will be legal. No arrests are expected.  You can learn more about the action below.

350 Louisville wants to help get as many Metro area folks there as possible (and in a low-cost, fuel efficient manner)  so we are attempting to coordinate transportation and, if necessary, lodging.

We will work to coordinate plans to serve as many people as possible, perhaps creating more than one travel plan.

To begin the process we are doing two things:
1) suggesting a plan
2) surveying interested folks to determine if a different or additional plan would serve the community.

Our proposed plan is:

Depart Louisville in the evening of Saturday, November 5, perhaps 10 PM, and drive all night.

Mode of transportation will depend on the number of people who sign up; it could be rented 15-passenger vans, rented mini-vans, or private autos (coach busses are too expensive).

Spend Sunday night the 6th either in DC or on the road outside DC.  (However, the group could decide to return immediately without overnighting.)  We will attempt to arrange inexpensive lodging, e.g., a church basement or Motel 6.

Leave the DC area at 8AM to arrive back in Louisville by 6 PM on Mon., Nov. 7.

We estimate cost per person for the above at $56-$68 (assumes 1 night in Motel 6)

If you want to make this trip, please reply to this email with responses to the following questions no later than Oct. 21.

1) Are you willing to travel overnight Saturday night? Sunday night?

2) Would you want to stay over Sunday night, or would you want to come back immediately?

3) If opting for a overnight stay, are you willing to bring a sleeping bag and sleep on a floor?

4) Any other schedule constraints, e.g., "I couldn't leave Saturday before (such and such time)"; or "I have to be back in Louisville on Monday by (such and such) time?

5) If we use private auto, are you willing to offer your vehicle, and how many does your vehicle seat?

6) Other comments/suggestions?

Invitation to Encircle the
White House From
Bill McKibben and
Tar Sands Action

Join us November 6th in Washington DC
Bill McK

On Sunday November 6 the Tar Sands Action will return to Washington DC to send an unmistakable message to the President.

Exactly one year before the election, we want to encircle the whole White House to ask President Obama to reject Keystone XL and live up to his promise to free us from the tyranny of oil. In doing so, we want to remind him of the power of the movement that he rode to the White House in 2008.

This is bigger than any one person - President or no - and we will carry on, with or without him. We've never tried something this ambitious before, and we don't know if there are the thousands of people that it will take to encircle the White House. But if we can pull it off, it will be an unmistakable message.

Also, we're not expecting any arrests at this action, which means that anyone and everyone is able to participate.
