What: Worlds of Opportunity Career Expo

 

When: September 29th-30th, 2010

 

Where: Gulf States Fairgrounds - Mobile, AL 

 

Who's Invited:  6,000 Eighth Grade Students from Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe, and Washington Counties

 

On September  29th & 30th, 2010, six thousand (6,000) eighth grade students, teachers, school administrators, parents, industry leaders and volunteers will be invited to converge on the Fairgrounds in Mobile, Alabama for the first annual "Worlds of Opportunity" Career Expo. The purpose of the Expo is to create awareness about career options among students and educators while addressing workforce needs in the region.

 

This expo, a project of the Southwest Alabama Workforce Development Council (SAWDC), will be a fun, educational, hands-on opportunity for students to become familiar with a broad overview of jobs available in the area.  Attendance to the expo will be available to students from our eight county workforce development region which includes Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe, and Washington Counties. 

 

The "Worlds of Opportunity" Expo includes the following industry sectors:

 

o    Safety

o    Energy

o    Construction - Industrial, Commercial, Residential, and Highway

o    Architecture and Engineering

o    Maritime

o    Aerospace

o    Manufacturing:  Paper, Chemical, Steel, Process

o    Health Care

o    Public Services

o    Communications

o    Auto Technology/Painting, Collision, Mechanics

           

Business and industry leaders, workforce development and career center representatives, along with school representatives are collaborating and partnering to introduce this event to our region.  A hands-on event of this type and magnitude has never been held in Alabama.   

 

We hope you will join us in our efforts to spread the message to students, parents and teachers that our industries provide highly skilled careers which are in high demand, and offer high wages.
