Your Region and the 2010 U.S. Census:
Numbers Mean Dollars
March 22, 2010
Dear Coastal Gateway Friends:
The 2010 Census is about to be underway. The 2010 forms should have already hit everyone's mailbox.
Historically, our region has had some of the lowest return rates in Alabama. What does that mean for your town or community? Less money in the coffers.
The Census returns directly impact your total dollars received from federal and state resources. These numbers play a vital role in your funding opportunities and overall economic wellness.
Did you know...
· Census figures do a lot more than just provide an accurate population count?
· They are also used to help determine federal and state funding levels, plan government services and draw legislative districts?
Because we believe this information is of extreme importance, please pass this information along to city council members, key community leaders, ministers, Chamber of Commerce professionals and others who can assist you in having the greatest, most accurate Census count in 2010. The census is very crucial for our region regarding obtaining federal dollars for schools, highways and other projects in our communities.
To illustrate the low rate of return during the 2000 Census count, below is a final response rate chart with just a few of our cities and counties. ***We now have all counties in the Coastal Gateway Region listed.
