In Memoriam

Karen Casillas, a former King William resident, passed away on Saturday, May 15. Karen and her husband Dr. Ernest Casillas were longtime residents at 504 King William Street. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. You may read her obituary online.

Eva Voelkel, owner of Voelkel Woodcrafts Gifts & Eats on Probandt Street and sister of King William resident Olga Flores, passed away on Monday, May 24. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. You may read her obituary online. A rosary will be held on Monday, May 31, at 6:30 pm at St. Leo's Catholic Church, 4401 S. Flores. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 1, at 12 pm at St. Leo's Catholic Church with a procession to follow to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Guests are asked to please wear happy colors to services.

Starting Thursday, June 3, a new cultural art program will begin in our neighborhood. Every two months a King William resident artist will be featured in our newsletter and their work will be displayed in the KWA office at 1032 S. Alamo, where it can be viewed from 10 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday, and on the First Thursday Artwalk starting June 3 from 6 to 9 pm. The artist will be present, if possible, at the First Thursday Artwalk, and wine and cheese will be served courtesy of a new neighborhood business, Pig Liquors, 1017 S. Presa, 226-6465, pigliquors.net.

Safety Update
Vehicle and bicycle thefts have recently been reported in our neighborhood. Please take precautions to keep your vehicles and bicycles secure by:
  • locking and parking them in the safest place possible;
  • not leaving valuable items in your vehicles;
  • and immediately reporting ALL suspicious activity to the San Antonio Police Department at 207-7273 (non-emergency) or 911 (emergency).

The King William Association is looking for active KWA members willing to serve as Nominating Committee and/or Board of Directors candidates.

Nominating Committee members
are needed to help identify neighbors who are interested in serving on our Board of Directors.

Board of Directors candidates
are placed on the ballot to be elected for a one-year term (September 2010 through August 2011) and are eligible to serve for three consecutive terms.

Office Volunteers Needed
Syeira Budd, Neighborhood Association Coordinator, will be out of the KWA office from Monday, June 28, through Friday, July 16. Volunteers are needed to keep the office open during that time. If you are available to answer  the phone and assist visitors for one or more shifts (Monday - Friday, 10 am - 2 pm), please contact Syeira at king.william@sbcglobal.net.
