I hope you are all doing well as you journey through January with all its challenges and extra demands, whether that has been dictated by the weather conditions or regrouping following Christmas, or unexpected events to manage at a time when you had hoped for a smooth flow to settle in to the new decade, to embrace the goals you have set for yourself, and to shift old limiting patterns with new year resolve.
The one thing that is certain in the uncertainty of life is that everything is moving and changing all the time. The biggest skill that can help sustain us in our lives is to become a master of our body and mind and become okay with the uncertainty of life.
The biggest distress of a human being is trying to keep things certain. This is what causes the greatest anxiety to mankind, the mind sticking to what we believe to be certain and therefore safe, whereas in truth the only safety is the trust deep within that we can manage whatever is ahead of us, that we have within us the skills to adapt to any change that occurs in our life.
My friend Gemma has a 'pea theory' of life. She reckons that life is like a pan of boiling peas. All the peas represent all the different aspects of your life, sometimes one pea is down at the bottom of the pan, but it never stays there, it rises to the surface again - and while one 'pea' is down others are up - there are other parts that are 'at the top' - if you take a look.
Sometimes in life it might not feel like there are any up bits - but if you shine your spotlight around, there will always be something 'up' to focus on. Even if it is as fleeting as a beautiful sunrise - or some shared laughter with a friend.
It is a matter of how we look at things - the perspective we take, as much as the actual happening. How you shine the spotlight of the show that is your life will determine what kind of experience you have as the main player in your life and how others who are viewing your story see it too.
This month Vena is exploring how 'tearing up the good girl script' will have a profound effect on your love life! I imagine that tearing up that script has a profound and freeing effect on all aspects of your life! Vena is
running a workshop to help you do this on Jan 26th.
Any 'script' holds us. So engaging with whatever is true for you is the way to live a life that starts to flow and manage the changing nature of life with more confidence. It is important that you make no one else your authority, not a book or a person or a magazine or a doctrine. Always reflect on whether something feels true for you - go within and by connecting to your truth you will connect with the universal life force and you will find that everything is within you. This will allow you to feel more fully your connection to everything else in the universe.
Jane explores this concept in her book 'The ninth magnitude', serialised in this newsletter. It is about a room that a woman has within her and how as her inner landscape changes so does her outer experience. This month Jane and I have recorded a podcast where she talks about her latest projects and her current work which also reflects this theme.
I like the idea of Mark's yoga 'holidays' and as happens every month when I read his article, I am inspired to attend one of his classes - this month might actually see the inspiration turn into action!
Rob, Jim and I ran together on the first snowy day and continued throughout - and both of their articles - plus the photos - reflect our experiences and how the changes the snow brought developed and accessed inner strength within us on all levels - looking at the photos you would be forgiven for making the mistake of thinking that we were out for a play in the snow rather than a 'serious training session'! Fiona writes about our new year's resolve actually being about an ongoing commitment to ourselves and to keep playing in the snow whilst keeping our goals in mind!
I am delighted to welcome Sarah back, who works with great skill, warmth and compassion as a relationship counseller. She has written an article for the newsletter this month on the power of listening to your partner and the expansion of love this brings. This message is also at the core of what I hope to communicate in this newsletter.Through listening to one another and validating the experience of the other we not only give our partner the space to feel heard and accepted, but we also expand ourselves and experience the healing of being present and opening to truly loving. Her words are inspiring and wise and explore harmony between body and soul.
So I wish you harmony of body and soul - an enjoyment of going with the flow and always honouring what you know to be true for you within.
