Welcome to my Winter Solstice newsletter.

Photo by Scott CollierThis special day, also known as Yule, is a celebration of everything that is truly important: your family, your friends, your health, love and sharing. Although this time is remembered and celebrated by many, it can also can get forgotten in the last rush up to Christmas day. It celebrates the birth of the Sun God - child of the Goddess in pagan belief system - so the winter solstice is the celebration of the rebirth of the sun.

When my alarm goes off early on winter mornings, I am aware of a part of me that waits patiently for the Solstice - the rest of me gets up and out of bed and onto the road to run, and recently to meet Fi, which has been wonderful - you can read her account of our morning madness! Our words often don't quite match the speed of our brains in the icy early cold! But the part that waits for the solstice celebrates the rebirth of the sun and the heralding of its gathering strength in the weeks to follow.

The cycle of the seasons, time circling around, gives energy to the belief that everything and anything is possible - the vast expanse of the Downs as the sun climbs into the sky with Fi and I running literally on top of the world allows the mind to expand into the vast vistas too.

The power and magnitude of nature all around taps into the resources which are within each and every one of us. We are all energy and all connected to one another and to everything in the universe. Running through the seasons and going with the flow can open up the  consciousness that our power is connected to this vast wattage in the sky - the sun which lights our day and gives us energy and warmth.

I feel very much a part of the seasons, by running in all weathers! It puts me in touch with the feeling of possibility and rebirth - as our country is enveloped in darkness for the longest stretch, just as summer is well and truly dead and buried under a cloak of darkness, the sun starts to rise up again - a rebirth - and make her way ever so softly to our doorsteps.

If we connect with the rhythm of nature we will find deep inside us a flame that can never go out - our own sun and our own strength; even if we experience a dark night or a dark day, this warmth and light and sun within will be there to rise again and always bring us a chance of rebirth.

The magical child lies within us all and seeking to find it, to heal any damage that has wounded the child, is a process that is important for us all as we circle around to the start of another new year and a new decade!

Have a wonderful Christmas holiday and I wish you all whatever you wish for yourselves for 2010.
