Welcome to my July Newsletter.
I was reflecting this week on what I hope to offer by
putting it together (actually I don't put it together - Simon does! I just ask
my brilliant contributors if they'll send me an article and then I send it all
to Si!).
So why do I
send a newsletter? There are a lot
of really interesting newsletters that come into my inbox on a weekly basis,
and as the internet is now such a wonderful way to communicate and give and
receive information, then it has become an arena to connect and communicate and
share information and ideas - but as Fiona writes about, what do we do with all
the information that is surrounding us in the media, in books - all around us,
not to mention the beliefs and stories we have grown up with and live our life
by!? How do we get to know what is right for us, what will support our own
unique preferences and needs?
My work is
about providing a space for people to get some clarity about who they are and
what they want. I listen to where people want to go and who they want to be and
help them to get there. One of the best ways to do this for one another in
everyday life is for all of us to learn to slow down our dialogue when we are
interacting and really listen and validate the other person. Harville Hendrix, author
of Getting the Love You Want created the intentional dialogue technique, which
is a powerful tool to help us take notice of everything that is going on around
us and within us, remind us to really listen to others, hear ourselves speak,
feel heard and be listened to and so be in a better position to really make
choices that suit us. Within authentic relating we have the opportunity to reconnect
and reclaim ourselves, by recognizing that our own and another person's preference
and view point are valid even if they differ from our own. It is in validating
difference that we find we heal ourselves and the other - and so if we feel
connected to ourselves, it becomes easier to sift through the information and
use what resonates for us.
This month,
Katherine Richards of incolour and I recorded a podcast about her passion for
the effect of colour in our lives. Speaking with her, it became apparent that
Katherine works with her clients in a way that enables them to access their own
preferences and get in touch with other possibilities and so lean how to better
create an environment that is right for them. She does not go in and 'tell' her
clients how to decorate their interiors, she listens and helps them create an
interior that stretches them to access more of themselves. This feels to be the
secret to greater happiness, work out who you are and be that - listen to
yourself and others and live and let be.
Chris's
article tells of his work in giving others a voice who are not being heard - he
shows us how much his work is doing this and the astounding effect it is having
- I look forward to seeing his documentary soon.
So I put my newsletter together
because I like doing it, in the same way that I run because I like running - I work because I like working, and I do my podcasts because I
really enjoy doing them, meeting and talking with the people I interview and
giving them (and me!) a space to talk, explore and express.
And so I
hope you like reading my newsletter too!
Have a
lovely summer,
Julia

Ever taken a look at my diary page?
Here's an update from this month...
On Wednesday I had invited a few people for a Manifestation workshop in London. Simon had found me the Dru café
to use as a venue, which was perfect! It is in Euston and it is
welcoming and warm and friendly inside, serving fabulous juices and
lunches and cakes and coffee too! Seven of us journeyed from different
places to meet there and as we were all making our way I had a sense of
us gathering from all corners of the land to create special magic! A
time and space for transformative growth and unblocking of anything
that might be holding us back from our true expression.
The reason for our meeting was that Chris Fieldhouse, a journalist and
author, had contacted me having read about the Manifestation workshops
I run in Eastbourne in my newsletter. She suggested we might have a
chat to see if the Daily Express, who she writes regularly for, might
be interested in a feature. Chris and I enjoy talking! So after a
brief, for us - lengthy for most - conversation she put the concept to
the Express. 'Yes', came their reply, but they wanted a workshop in
London so that they could send a photographer. And so it was that the
seven of us met at 12pm in the Dru café where we were served an amazing
lunch. The café is a centre for Dru yoga which is all about gently
unblocking the energy in the joints so that we might move freely
without pain and restriction, which resonated with our intention for
the day - gently unblocking any restrictive blocked energy, continuing
the healing process of old wounds so that we might go further towards
completion as adults.
All
of us want to be as integrated and expansive as we were born to be, but
we are often held back by the wounds that occurred in the early
developmental stages when we were being prepared for adulthood as
effectively as possible. It is inevitable that stumbles and wounds
occurred on the path - but it is when it is evident that these wounds
are still affecting is 20, 30, 40 years later - and often for a
lifetime - that it motivates people to take a look at the patterns and
stories that are blocking them from leading the life they truly want to
lead, blocking them from manifesting their dreams, sabotaging their
efforts as they are just about to be realised.
My workshops
create a space for this. A space to explore what you want, what you
perceive are your blocks and time to address what you are really
thinking and feeling, which can sometimes be revealing and surprising,
and also time to put in place some steps for transformation and
actually feel the healing of the group, everyone supporting and
encouraging each other.
The core value of the workshops is
love. If we really do learn to love ourselves then we will always be
alright and the challenges and tests along our life path will be
embraced as just that, rather than as evidence that we are 'useless'.
Self esteem is great and can come from our achievements and the
reflection of the approval of others, but if we approve of ourselves
then we are always okay. We will always have ourselves to rely on and
to fall back on in times of trouble. We will also find that we have the
capacity to support understand and love others.
During the
workshop I take the participants through a guided meditation. The
energy and stillness in the room feels wonderful and so many worlds
converge in the imagination of each person as they journey to their
inner sanctuary. We all have an inner sanctuary inside us, a place
within that is always peaceful and calm whatever is going on the outer
levels. If we can access this place often enough, then a magical thing
occurs - we find we are in touch with it at all times and life flows
more freely and easily. And essentially it seems that the workshops
'work' - I started running them a few months ago and the people who
have come regularly are reporting much change in their lives, and most
importantly much more fun, play, self acceptance and freedom from
stress and anxiety.
