The Cause of Teen Pregnancy

I recently ran across the following statement: Modern society seems to have forgotten that problems are not solved by treating the effects, but by identifying and dealing with the causes. And that my friend is the problem we're now facing regarding sex education. Many in our society are pushing condoms and birth control pills as the solution to teen pregnancies. But pregnancy is not the problem; teens having sex is the problem.

Last week a mother of a teenage girl said to me, "Asking my daughter to save sex for marriage isn't realist in today's society." And she's probably right - if that portrays the mother's value system. But how sad when society dictates family values.

So here's my question to you: Are you serious about your children avoiding pregnancies, STDs and the emotional trauma related to multiple sexual partners? If the answer is yes, then the only solution is to raise the standard and embrace a strong family value that states, "Our family believes sex should be saved for marriage."

This is NOT accomplished by repeating the words, "don't have sex" day after day. It is, however, accomplished by explaining your values on an ongoing basis over the years - instead of a one-time talk. It's also important your child eventually embraces this value as his/her own as opposed to trying to please you.

Remember, children who know they are loved by their parents and are involved in activities they enjoy are far less likely to feel the need to get involved in sexual activity.

19 Years and Counting...

On August 1st, Aim For Success completed our 19th year of helping young people avoid the risks of sexual activity. During that time we have shared our message with well over 2 million teens, parents and educators. More importantly, teen pregnancies have dropped to a record low during this same time period.
