Public Library Programs to be Featured at 2012 Amigos Member Conference

The 2012 Amigos Member Conference, "Plotting Futures," will highlight forward-thinking activities at public libraries.

"Read/Watch/Listen LOCAL: How to Bring Unique Homegrown Talent into Your Library" will be presented by Dana Braccia, Content & Digital Communities Manager, Scottsdale (AZ) Public Library. In the spirit of the national Eat Local movement, the Scottsdale Public Library piloted a LOCAL Collection, designed to:

  • showcase the emerging literary, film, and musical efforts of its community
  • introduce library users to unique homegrown talent that is not yet nationally known
  • give local authors, filmmakers, and musicians a tangible way to connect with an Arizona audience

You'll want to hear Dana discuss the program and how it has been embraced by the Scottsdale community.

Today's challenge is delivering services to smartphones, eBook readers, and tablets to users on the go who now view more content on mobile devices than desktop and laptop computers. CDs and DVDs are becoming pass, eBook sales outpace paper books, and users increasingly download music, movies, and books from iTunes and Kindle, storing their purchases in the Cloud.
