What's the Latest Trend in Your Library?
Tell Us about It at the 2012 Amigos Member Conference

Amigos is currently accepting proposals for its future-themed 2012 Amigos Member Conference online, May 9-10.

Insight and vision are key skills needed to take libraries into a future that librarians influence and create for their campuses and communities. Creating the future recognizes technological, political, economic, and societal influences. We are looking for libraries that have implemented future-focused services and strategies to share their stories with conference participants.

Possible topics include:

  • Innovative services
  • Capitalizing on trends to create new services
  • Tools and techniques for trend scanning
  • Scenario planning
  • Change management
  • Succession planning
  • Any topic about the future

Make Your Case with Library Data: an Online Class

Today, librarians rely on data more than ever to make the case for needed services, space, staffing, and funds. While collecting usage and other library data is nothing new, today's economic atmosphere requires that librarians utilize data more fully to ensure that administrators and decision-makers are receptive to and supportive of their needs.

This online class will cover library data, examining it from an administrator's point of view. Examples of the sources of data covered include statistics and surveys. A full description of this class and online registration is available on the Amigos website.

E-readers in the Library

E-readers are becoming increasingly popular among today's library patrons, and libraries are responding by offering an expanding menu of e-content. With numerous options for e-content and e-reader devices, it can easily become a daunting task to provide the support patrons need and want. In response to the rise in use of e-readers and e-content in libraries, and the need for library staff to provide knowledgeable assistance, Amigos has developed three new online classes.

E-readers: From Policy Implementation to Marketing and Evaluation, and  Configuring Hardware and E-collections in Libraries debut in April. The two courses will be combined into All You Need to Know About E-reader Services in Your Library, which be offered beginning in June. Follow the links for each class to read a full description and register online.
