Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving will be upon us before we know it. Although most of us are thankful throughout the year for the blessings we receive, it is during Thanksgiving that we tend to be more demonstrative in our recognition of all the blessings God has bestowed upon us. We look over the year and see the harvest produced by God and through our efforts to follow Christ's example and live in love. And from that harvest, we look forward to great meals and some time off of work to relax and reflect. However, the main ingredient, the one that puts the 'thanks' in Thanksgiving is family. We could have the best gourmet food out there and plenty of it, but without family to share that food with, it is an empty harvest. That's what Teen Challenge offers students at Thanksgiving - their families!
At Teen Challenge we know all too well the effects of addiction. They are devastating; everyday that your loved one is "out there" is filled with pain, fear, anger and confusion. Over the holidays we hear mothers, fathers, siblings and wives talk about their many blessings, but still, "if only we could have this one prayer answered, we would be forever grateful." We plant Christ's seed hoping for immediate results but knowing that it could be years before those crops flourish. Men come into this program with all life drained from their faces. They come in off the streets, out of jail and having lost all that was dear to them. They come in with families who are anxiously waiting for the transformation that will give them back the man that they once knew and loved before bad decisions and addiction turned them into a person they didn't want to know anymore.
Yes, through the years we have been fortunate to watch life come back into lightless eyes as we help ease them into the loving arms of Christ. We have witnessed miraculous harvests. But whether the result is immediate or takes time to come to fruition, we are thankful. We are thankful to be a safe place. A place of restoration. A place where we can bestow grace, guidance and loving correction upon others in the same way that Christ has bestowed that upon us.
Although many Thanksgivings have come and gone, there is no amount of time that can dull the effects of a life long transformation. We are still as blessed today as we were ten, fifteen years ago to witness the joy, the relief, and the hope on the faces of our students and their families as they come together this season. There is no statute of limitations on the exhilaration of hope.
Thanksgiving is a great holiday for us. Every Thanksgiving, Teen Challenge of Arkansas invites families and friends to join in Thanks a celebration of Christ's transformative love with a meal and a special service in our chapel.
We see a tremendous harvest as people come from north, south, east and west to visit their fathers, sons, brothers and husbands hoping to see that light. To see the person they once knew and loved turning away from the dark and turning to Christ. What better way to close the gap than to rejoice together. The chapel service is open and starts at 7:00 pm Thanksgiving eve. If you would like to come, please contact Tina at 501-624-2446. If not then we thank you for your support and have a safe, blessed, and an abundant holiday! |
