Preschool at Darlington Arts Center |
New Classes Forming
Education through Music, Art, Dance & Drama Ages 3 - 5 9 am - Noon
Introduce your child to school through arts-focused curriculum. The Preschool at Darlington Arts Center includes music, visual arts, creative movement and drama!
Teachers emphasize creativity, imagination, exploration, and active participation. In art, the emphasis is on process and progress rather than product. Children are encouraged to experiment with a variety of materials and techniques in order to expand their artistic expression and hand-eye coordination. Music instruction includes listening, singing, moving, and playing rhythm instruments. They develop an appreciation for the patterns and musical variety produced by rhythms and melodies. In drama and creative movement, students engage in role playing and movement utilizing their creativity and imaginations to their fullest.

February Highlight: Chester Theater Arts Program |
 | |
Fall 2011 Performance of "You Are What You Eat" |
Students are exposed to music, dance and theater through weekly classes by Darlington's professional artists while preparing a community presentation for the end of each 16-week semester. Through this arts education, students learn self-confidence, how to express themselves clearly and how to work with others.
This year the students have been focusing on nutrition and healthy eating. Their Fall play was entitled "You Are What You Eat" and included 5 original songs written by the students (with direction from the instructor) as well as dances to "Who Runs the World" and "Time of My Life."
Darlington is pleased to be able to offer this dynamic arts outreach program for the fourteenth year allowing childern living in the city of Chester to experience music, dance and theater. In addition to weekly classes, the program provides additional exposure to the arts through performance opportunities, guest artists, and cultural field trips.
This special program is funded through individual donations, Boeing Company, Connelly Foundation, Genuardi Family Foundation, Hoxie Harrison Smith Foundation, ING Direct and Lomax Foundation.
"I have been in the Chester Theater Arts Program for 6 years. I have learned many things that cannot be displayed on the stage. I have learned how to be a leader ... and how to let my creativity shine through in anything that I do." ~Zaakiyah Brown, 16 year old participant |
