Susan Nicodemus Quinn Darlington's New Executive Director |
The Board, Staff and Teaching Artists welcome Susan Quinn as she energetically joins Darlington as the new Executive Director. You may have seen her around, as she has been a part of the Darlington Community for the past 3 years, attending special events and watching her kids enjoy summer camps and classes. Susan joins Darlington after having spent 11 years as Director of Education at Walnut Street Theatre where she vastly expanded the program and offerings, from reaching 15,000 individuals in 1999 to over 110,000 annually. Susan's core values regarding arts education strongly reflect the beliefs shared by the Darlington Community. She believes the arts open new opportunities for success for individuals, which in turn increase self confidence, strengthen collaborative skills, improve learning, and expand one's world-view. These values support her commitment to creating high quality arts experiences. Susan holds a BFA with Honors from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia majoring in Theatre and has spent over 5 years as a professional performing artist touring regionally and nationally, including Off-Broadway productions. She has also served as a booking agent, director and teaching artist. Stop by to introduce yourself and say "Hi!"

Rick Phillips November Gallery
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 5, 3-5pm Show Open Through: Nov 28
Reminiscent of some 19th-century painters, Rick Phillips uses his knowledge of light and color to create atmosphere you can almost touch and smell. Using hard and soft edges selectively, he develops the feeling of moisture, wind, and the warmth of the sun in his paintings. In the city, in the country, or working on a still life, Rick gets to the heart of his subjects with loose and bravura brushstrokes, elegant and evocative color, and a unique sense of mood. Gallery Hours: Mon-Fri 9am-9pm, Sat 9am-4pm Closed every Sun & Nov 24-27 |

Widener University's The FreshBaked Theatre Company's "The Sapphire Comb"
Sunday, November 6, 3pm for ages 6 & up
The Sapphire Comb is an original tale by Moses Goldberg, one of America's master playwrights for young audiences. 11-year-old Hannah waves her "magic" sapphire comb, a remembrance from her mother, over the water each day to commune with the River Spirit. One day she discovers a mysterious woman in the river and pulls her to safety. This River Woman holds secrets of the river's needs as well as clues to Hannah's mother's disappearance 8 years before. Creative movement, puppets, and music help bring the mysterious tale to life. The Sapphire Comb features Darlington student Ruby Knipe, 5 Widener University students, and is directed by Darlington Teaching Artist Lisa Eckley Cocchiarale. A suggested donation of $1/person will be collected to benefit a local food bank.
