Community Totem Dedication Ceremony
Saturday, October 1, 11am

This summer, the community gathered to create a lasting monument representing the area's local history and personal stories under the guidance of members from Totem Rhythms, Inc. Come out and join the Dedication Celebration this Saturday! There will be Native Americans in traditional dress performing traditional rituals and a brief ceremony to thank all the volunteers and participants for their time and hard work spent carving and painting this Story Pole. Totem Rhythms will be presenting a President Obama's Presidential Council for Service Awards Committee Bronze Award to Darlington and recognition awards to the volunteers who helped with the totem pole project. This is a great chance to view the finished representation of local history and learn about some local Native American traditions. Light refreshments will be served.

$5 general admission. The Copeland String Quartet is comprised of four Delaware Symphony Orchestra players: Eliezer Gutman, violin; Thomas Jackson, violin; Nina Cottman, viola; and Mark Ward cello. The quartet was founded in 2003 inspired by the dazzling and vast repertoire for a small ensemble. Friday, October 21

Etty is a touring one-woman theatrical play based on the diaries and letters of Etty Hillesum, adapted and performed by Susan Stein and directed by Austin Pendleton. Using only Etty Hillesum's words, Susan Stein's adaptation brings us to 1943 when Etty, a young Jewish woman, is about to be deported out of Holland. As she prepares for the three day journey eastward, she digs deep into her soul to understand this piece of history and root out any hatred or bitterness, believing that humanity is the best and only solution for survival. Bring a picnic and beverage of your choice; corkscrew provided.
