Preschool & Kindergarten Arts Programs 2011-2012 Registrations Accepted | |
Introduce your child to writing, counting and a classroom environment through arts-focused curriculum.
Teachers emphasize creativity, imagination, exploration, and active participation. In art, the emphasis is on process and progress rather than product. Children are encouraged to experiment with a variety of materials and techniques in order to expand their artistic expression and hand-eye coordination. Music instruction includes listening, singing, moving, and playing rhythm instruments. They develop an appreciation for the patterns and musical variety produced by rhythms and melodies. In drama and creative movement, students engage in role playing and movement utilizing their creativity and imaginations to their fullest. In Spanish students are introduced to the Spanish language in a fun and engaging manner using age appropriate methods. The alphabet, numbers, colors and basic conversation will be covered.

Sensei Jane Freemas, Isshinryu Karate instructor, is a finalist for the Female Instructor of the Year in the 32nd annual International Isshinryu Hall of Fame Competition and Awards this July. A board of 10 high ranking black belt masters from around the country choose the finalists based on the outstanding contribution that the individual makes to the style of Isshinryu, and to the surrounding community in general. They also must be of impeccable character, and a role model to others. The finalists travel to Tennessee to compete. Jane is a wonderful instructor, won this award in 2008 and was a finalist again in 2009. Darlington and all her students are truly lucky to have her as an instructor.
| | Cyrill Perniss Miller, a few days old | Violin instructor Janka Perniss and her husband Zach Miller welcomed their first child to the world on June 6th. Cyrill Perniss Miller was 8 lbs 10 oz and 22 1/2 inches long. The whole family is doing well and adjusting to having a little one around.
Geri Smith, piano & voice instructor, performed at The New York Songwriter's Circle at The Bitter End, NYC this June. This is a high profile showcase! A critic reviewed Geri's performance saying, "Singer-songwriter Geri Smith continued the theme of this turmoil with her song 'Almost In Your Arms'. Depicting the desperate yearning of a long distance relationship Geri's classical training on piano became obvious with an effortless performance of beautiful harmonies. Smith radiated a level of experience that left the audience moved by her soothing yet raw vocals. With such talent it's no wonder that she holds the number two spot on the Choice Chart." Geri's next gig is at the Kennett Inn on Friday, July 1, 8-10pm.
