Tim Corey
Drawing After Dark:
Interpretations in Charcoal, Pencil & Pastel
February's Gallery Exhibit
Opening Reception: February 5, 3-5pm
Show open through February 28th

"Navigations through the Inescapable Storms"Tim Corey has been studying the arts since he was a child and they became his passion during his teens. His early artwork was influenced by Surrealism, Salvador Dali and religion, was abstract and focused on the growing pains experienced during one's teenage years as well as the struggle of religion in a secular world.

In an effort to bring art back into his life, Tim enrolled in a class at Darlington with Chadds Ford artist Karl J. Kuerner. Kuerner helped Tim grow as an artist with a balance of constructive criticism and praise, challenging him with all of his pieces. With this support, Tim found a new sense of enthusiasm for his art, focusing on becoming a more complete artist who can create lifelike images with a variety of mediums, who can see the shapes within the shapes, and enhance the lights by using the darks.

This exhibit, "Drawing after Dark: Interpretations in Charcoal, Pencil and Pastel," is a collection showcasing the new direction Tim has taken with his art. These works demonstrate Tim's growth as an artist, and his path from the surreal to the realistic. All of Tim's work highlights his attention to detail and meticulous approach to recreating lifelike images.

Gallery hours: Mon-Fri 9am-9pm, Sat 9am-4pm

All proceeds help support the work and mission of Darlington.

We invite all Darlington students, of any age or proficiency, to participate:
ˇ as a performer in Dance, Drama, Karate or Music

This is a great opportunity for students to perform their own original works in addition to the material covered in lessons and classes. Simply find sponsors to support you for each minute of performance time ($5 per minute minimum)
ˇ as an artist creating our community mural
With the help of someone from our art staff, you can explore your creativity & make ;a large mark $10 minimum)

The top 3 fundraisers win monetary prizes (a top prize of $100).

This Performathon provides not only an opportunity for creative expression and performance, but also teaches our students to learn two very important aspects of society - advocacy and philanthropy. Together, we can work to make this an unprecedented success and help the Center in this challenging economy.

You are welcome to bring family, friends & neighbors to listen, watch and enjoy! Thank you for your support!

P. S.  If you cannot participate but would still like to make a donation, please visit our website or stop by the office!

Zach Crystal rehearsing

Zach Crystal
, percussion instructor, was invited to perform with the St. Louis Symphony under the conductor David Robertson in two concerts (January 21 & 22). They performed Seven by Peter Eötvös and Ein deutsches Requiem by Brahms.

Zach performed on the Eötvös piece with a large setup of instruments including gongs, anvils, and coil springs. Seven is Peter Eötvös' memorial for the astronauts of the shuttle Columbia. Eötvös says the work is "the musical expression of my sympathy towards the seven astronauts who lost their lives while exploring space in fulfillment of a fundamental dream of mankind."

Leadership at the Darlington Arts Center
Serving on our Board of Directors and the Board Committees is a meaningful way to get involved with the Darlington Arts Center. We're looking for energetic people with an interest in sharing their legal, financial, public relations and marketing expertise. Our Board meets every other month. Board Committees typically meet in months where the Board does not. Board members participate in activities of the full Board and sit on at least one Board Committee.

Interested? Contact Executive Director Angela Scully at 610-358-3632 x106 or angela@darlingtonarts.org.
