PumpkinFest Returns!
Saturday, October 16, 3-5pm
PumpkinFest
On Saturday, October 16, from 3 to 5 pm, bring your family and friends over to Darlington for the second annual PumpkinFest.  Hosted by the Darlington Parents Committee, there will be fun, food and games for the whole family.  In addition, there will be a costume parade, pumpkin contest and prizes will be awarded!
 
Proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the mission and upkeep of the Darlington Arts Center.  Parents have talked about using funding to upgrade the furniture in the hallways. The Darlington Parents Committee could use your help organizing this event.  Email Angela if you are interested at angela@darlingtonarts.org.

Paolo will perform works by Schumann and Chopin celebrating their 200th birthdays. His selections will be catchy for children, but rich in depth and varied in styles. A brief description of each composition will be offered prior to each selection.

Louise and I appreciated all you folks and all you did in sending meals, fruits, vegetables, etc.  As hard as it has been, it has been wonderful to know many people care.

Faculty Focus
Annette Alessi, art instructor, is participating in a few upcoming group exhibitions with the Da Vinci Art Alliance. She will have her piece "Seven Stones Cafe" at the Noyes Museum (Hammonton, NJ) Oct 1-9, and will be in the associate artist show Oct 15-Nov 13 at the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts (Millville, NJ). She is also participating in the Tyme Gallery's first Annual Plein Aire Festival Oct 7-9.
 
Elaine Lisle, art instructor, will be exhibiting her latest work at Artists' House Gallery Sept 29-Oct 31. There are two receptions for the exhibition, Friday, Oct 1, 5-8:30pm and Sunday, Oct 3, 1-4pm.

"St. Leonie Aviat" model of statue
Olga Nielsen, adult figure drawing & sculpting instructor, is working on a unique project!  She is making a life size bronze statue of St. Leonie Aviat for her shrine at St. Bernadette Church in Drexel Hill, PA. The model for the scultpure (shown) is in the church now.
 
Barbara Prugh, trumpet instructor, has been posting videos of some of her recent performances online.  Check out the new ones at http://gallery.me.com/bsptrumpet.
 
Geri Smith's, piano instructor and singer/songwriter, newest children's music, "Bookmobile Submarine," written with John Hadfield, will begin being played on "Kids Corner" on WXPN-FM. Watch the animated video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtyw7rBnCN0
Geri's co-written children's songs were voted as part of the "Top Ten" lists by Kids Corner listeners 4 of the last 5 years!

Congratulations to all Darlington alumni who received roles in the above mentioned production of "The Wizard of Oz"
 
Andi Hemmenway
Andrea Hemmenway, violist and piano/chamber music alum (among other things), will be performing with pianist Konstantinos Papadakis on October 17 at 3pm at the Ethical Society of Philadelphia. The program will include the world premiere of Hellenic Suite, written especially for the artists by Panagiotis Theodossiou, one of Greece's preeminent composers. The concert is sponsored by the Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia with all proceeds going to their scholarship fund.

Serving on our Board of Directors and the Board Committees is a meaningful way to get involved with the Darlington Arts Center. We're looking for energetic people with an interest in sharing their legal, financial, public relations and marketing expertise. Our Board meets every other month. Board Committees typically meet in months where the Board does not. Board members participate in activities of the full Board and sit on at least one Board Committee.
