Past musings on the season of autumn:
In TCM, Earth is the element that represents this season. It is the peak of the harvest when we reap Earth's bounties. It is a time when the sun starts to slowly dip behind the horizon more and more each day and the leaves fade from green to more earthly colors such as yellow, gold, red, orange, purple, and brown. It is a time to nourish ourselves with the fruits and gifts that the earth has provided to ground our bodies and prepare for the cooler times approaching. Stay in touch with the turning of the earth by eating vegetables and fruits and colors that are in season. In the San Francisco Bay Area, this includes corn, eggplant, blackberries, Valencia Oranges, grapes, pears, apples, and pumpkins. The changing season and colors of the leaves are represented in the harvest of the season.
It is a new year celebration and time of reflection for the Jewish culture as well as a time of atonement of ancient Greeks who celebrated the Eleusinian Mysteries. Once again, we are offered a time of renewal in the wheel of the year. A time to start over with new habits of health for our bodies and of the earth of which we all share.Fall officially descended on us at the Autumn Equinox. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), we are experiencing the fifth season of the year: Late Summer.
Now that the kids are back in school and the days are getting shorter, it's a great time to think about your own fitness habits. Ski Season is just around the corner and it's getting too dark to jog late in the evening. It's a great time to schedule a fitness session with Liz to update your home program or get a workout in the studio.
