Greetings! It is one of those 5 times each year that I get to say "Happy New Year!" I love it, we always have a chance to begin fresh. On Sunday, March 20th, the light of the day is equal to the night and from now until the summer solstice in June, the sun overtakes the darkness. At the Spring Equinox, the Persian New Year is celebrated as well as the beginning of a new Zodiac Year (the sun moves into Aries). Each change of season brings us the opportunity to evaluate our habits and listen to our bodies.
This spring, I have new offerings in bloom for you! This Sunday, March 26th, I am teaming up with Nicole Becker, Yoga Therapist, in her new yoga studio in El Cerrito for a

Office Manager's Corner FAQ
Why do you have a 24-hour cancellation policy?
If you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment, someone else might be able to take your spot. I need some time to offer the opening to someone else.
I typically have a waiting list and, if you were on it, wouldn't you like some advanced warning to arrange to come in when something opens up?
What do I do if I am sick and have an appointment?
PLEASE don't come in! First of all, I don't want to get sick. I'd rather lose one client in a day than lose an entire day, or worse, several days of work.
In my experience, we typically can tell when we are coming down with an illness before it happens. I would rather you listen to your body and plan ahead. Email or call to cancel our session even if you don't end up getting sick. This way, you have a free hour to rest and prevent yourself from getting worse. We shouldn't exercise when we have a fever and it is not a good idea to get body work done when your immune system is working at full force. Think of it as a gift of free time to yourself for your health.
I also work with several clients who have severely compromised immune systems. A simple cold to us could be life threatening for them. Please don't put others at risk by spreading your germs. Stay home and get well soon!
Why don't you take insurance?
I do not offer traditional physical therapy; I offer wellness services and personal training. I quit my job at a traditional physical therapy clinic because insurance companies are becoming more and more restrictive in the amount they reimburse for service and the services that they pay for. My wellness services are not covered by insurance. My typical clients are seeing me because they have already been through traditional physical therapy, have used up their benefits, and still need a skilled practitioner to help them heal and meet their fitness goals.
This offers my clients several advantages: 1. I can address the client as a whole, not just the body part that is on the doctor's prescription. 2. We do not need to get a new doctor's prescription every 30 days. 3. I can keep my fees low by not hiring an office manager who deals solely with insurance regulations (my hourly rate would triple if I had to deal with insurance). 4. My clients decide how they spend their treatment sessions. They can choose an hour of body work, an hour of exercise, or a combination thereof. We are not limited to a single body part or diagnosis, because we are healing the whole body through active exercise and passive manual work in the wellness model.

Cupping Technique
|
Do you have scar tissue or adhesions that limit your range of motion? Make an appointment with me to "get cupped." I have seen and felt instant results from this modern twist on an ancient healing art on my clients and on myself. It works great on the IT-Band, low back, and shoulders.
Check out the new website that describes the technique in more detail. Not in the east bay? Look for practitioners closer to you on this page.

Practice flexibility and plant a garden this spring.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Spring is the season associated with the element wood. Wood represents flexibility and stability simultaneously. Think of a bamboo stalk, it is as sturdy as bone, yet flexible enough to bend with the wind in the strongest storms. A wooden flute turns the human breath into song. Like the Liver and Gallbladder organs, wood cleanses. The gallbladder meridian runs through the temples, side of the neck, ribs, hips, IT-Band, outer calf and the 5th toe. The liver meridian runs from the liver, down the inside of the legs, and through the inside if the Great Toe. We need flexibility in our temples, thorax, ribs, and legs in order for our liver and spleen to digest fats and detoxify our blood. Visualize your anger and frustration transforming into a fresh sprout in your gut that will grow into a sweet song this summer. The sun is now overtaking the darkness in the Northern Hemispheres and in our bodies. Cleanse your body with lemon water and eat your greens to align with the season's energy.

Links! Back by popular demand:
This season, I have decided to bring back the links (you talk, I listen) several of my followers do not want to join facebook, so this is for them! I will not include all of the links that are on my facebook business page,

but I'll continue to highlight the ones that stir the most conversation on the treatment table or ones that are most relevant to my newsletter readers.
