Union Central Changes

Several years ago three companies including Union Central merged under the name of UNIFI Companies.  Last year Union Central became a wholly owned subsidiary of Ameritas, which was one of the companies that merged.  This was done mostly as a means to have one balance sheet for the two companies for purposes of financial reporting and not having to maintain the risk based capital required for two separate companies.

Any of you who received a check from us this year know that those checks say Ameritas on them instead of Union Central.  Just so we are clear; Union Central still exists and operates out of the same home office in Cincinnati Ohio.  All the same people are still there and that will not change.  Some products that had been sold with the Union Central name now carry the Ameritas name and at some point next year, that may be true of newly issued DI policies also.

All of you have gone through companies that merge and names change but the people who you have relationships with, who bill, submit, issue, and underwrite your business remain the same.  That is true here also.

Economies of Scope and Economies of Scale have been buzz words for running an efficient business going back to my Unum days, and today companies are looking for ways to be more efficient, including us, so you will continue to see changes like this that help us to achieve those goals.  We, The Christensen Agency and our carriers, remain committed to you, our producers to give you the highest levels of service, knowledge, and options for your clients and that is one thing that will never change.
Business Overhead Expense with BLP Rider
BOE coverage has been a great product offering for our brokers.  It will provide money to your busines owner clients, should a disability occur, that can keep the business up and running while they recover or prepare to sell the business.  Principal also offers the BLP (Business Loan Protection) rider which will pay off a commercial loan commitment on top of the other reimbursable covered expenses.

For those of you that alreay have BOE insurance on your clients, whether it's with Principal or another carrier, they can get a policy that covers the business loan protection portion in addition to their existing BOE coverage on a separate policy.

Let us know if you we can provide you a quote on either product.
2009 Year in Review and 2010 Forecast
Like many, our sales were slightly down in 2009.  The year proved to be quite a rollercoater ride with ups and downs.  It seems that we've once again settled in during the 4th quarter of 2009 and had steady sales results coming in since October.  That continues to occur in January as well and based on current activity will continue during the 1st quarter of 2010.

Consumers are once again making buying decision in regards to protecting their incomes and business ventures in the event of a disbaility.  We've noticed that not all consumers are looking to buy the high end coverage that was once easily sold but rather opting for a more basic plan with fewer riders.  We feel this trend will continue and we are confident with our numerous carriers we can design a DI plan that will meets the needs and the budget of your clients in 2010.

If you have a client or case where you think there may be a need for disability insurance protection we can design a plan to cover virtually any disability scenario.

Thank you for partnering with us in 2009 and we look forward to continuing that partnership with you.
Sincerely,
