Greetings!
Welcome to our monthly newsletter. We have had a successful month of math practices. Fairfield Math Club members have worked hard to sharpen their skills at mathemetical problem solving. We have finished volume 4 of Math Contests-Grades 4, 5, & 6 and working on volume 5. For AMC 8 we have done past contests from1997-2003 (seven years) so far. And yes, the super brainy eighth graders have done six past contests from AMC 10.
Our big contest day is on Saturday November 17. Mathleague for grades 4, 5, 6 (separately) is at 2 p.m. and AMC 8 (for grades 6-8 combined) is at 3 p.m. All are at Fairfield main Libray Rotary Room (www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org) Grades 3 through 6 can take the MathLeague contest. Please register at next class if you haven't already done so. Registration is $10 for each contest.
All of you should practice extra hard now - about two contests per week. You can repeat the contests that you've already done. Take it timed (use a timer), in a quite room. Eighth graders remember to practice AMC 8 (AMC 10 is not untill February). Also make sure you understand the solutions for all problems that you couldn't do or got wrong. LAST YEAR WE HAD ONE STUDENT SCORE IN TOP 1% NATIONALLY in AMC 8 to win the distinguished honor roll. Two others scored in top 5% nationally to win the merit roll. We need to keep our honors up this year too......

MathCounts 2008
|
Registration Deadline is December 7, 2007
|

If your middle school has not registered for MathCounts 2008, please advise them to do so. Alternatively you can ask your parent to inform your math teacher and register for your school, with his/her name as the coach. MathCounts only accepts school registration but you can participate as an individual. Remember all mail comes to the school so your parent should ask them to be forwarded to him/her. If you get three other students from your school you can form a team (needs four). The registration deadline is
December 7, 2007. You can register online here. You can check whether or not your school is registered here.
MATHCOUNTS® is a national math enrichment, coaching & competition
program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every
U.S. state & territory. This year it is celebrating its 25th anniversary. It is a challenging contest and you need to start practising right away. You can get past contests here. You can also practice online here. We'll practice MathCounts in December-January before the contest, which is on first Saturday of February 2008 at Fairfield University.
