APAH Purchases 134-unit Marbella Apartments
APAH preserves affordability in close-in, transit-rich location

On Friday, June 17, APAH purchased the 134-unit Marbella Apartments, preserving an affordable rental housing community in a transit-rich locationJune 2010-Marbella photo near Rosslyn. "With the purchase of Marbella, APAH provides affordable housing to 995 Arlington households in 12 properties," said APAH President/CEO Nina Janopaul. "We are excited about being able to preserve these valued units for another sixty years. This property has 14 units serving 40% AMI households and 26 serving 50% AMI households -- some of the lowest rents in our portfolio."

"Arlington County is delighted to support APAH's work in preserving Marbella Apartments, to keep these homes affordable for the next sixty years. We especially appreciate the Marbella's location, near the Rosslyn and Courthouse Metro stations," said Arlington County Board Chair Chris Zimmerman.

The 3.5 acre property is located in Fort Meyer Heights, just across Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) from APAH's Parc Rosslyn Apartments. We look forward to continue serving Marbella residents who represent Arlington's rich cultural and economic diversity. Click here for news release.

Columbia Grove Clothing Drive A Big Success
Teens from Amigos de las Americas help residents of all ages

On May 14 APAH hosted a Clothing Fair at Columbia Grove in partnership with a group of local highJune2011-CG clothing drive school students with the nonprofit, Amigos de las Americas. The students are headed to Latin America for community service work this summer. Organizing the Clothing Fair provided a way for the students to invest in their own community and practice their Spanish. The youth solicited donations of clothing, household items, books and toys from their friends and family, and distributed them from the Columbia Grove Community Room. Approximately 150 residents attended. While parents filled bag after bag with free supplies, the youth volunteers led educational games outside with their children. The Fair was a huge success, and several residents have dropped by the Community Room to model their new clothes and express their thanks.
