APAH CELEBRATES MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING AT COURTHOUSE CROSSINGS

Courthouse Crossings Exterior View

APAH celebrated the renovation of our latest acquisition, Courthouse Crossings Apartments, with a special grand opening ceremony on September 25, 2007.

Over 75 people joined our celebration party at the apartment complex at 1220 North Scott Street in Arlington, including Virginia and Arlington County officials, residents and neighbors. Congressman Jim Moran, Arlington County Board member Chris Zimmerman, and Susan Dewey, Executive Director of the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA), addressed the audience, and students from the nearby Mongolian School of the National Capital Area performed colorful folk dances from their homeland.

APAH's purchase of the 112-unit complex in May 2006 achieved a goal set by our founders when this nonprofit was formed in 1989. With the support of Arlington County and VHDA, we secured the $34 million necessary to purchase, renovate and preserve affordable housing at the fifteen-year-old property. As a result, APAH was able to expand affordability at the complex and make every apartment affordable to households earning $35,000 to $55,000 annually.

We would like to thank our sponsors for the grand opening: VHDA, Alliant Capital, Linden Contracting, Inc., Paradigm Management and Chesapeake Community Advisors. Thank you also to King Street Blues Restaurant and Lebanese Taverna for providing the delicious food.

Two New Ways to Support APAH

Dan Donates Car to APAH
Vehicles for Charity
Vehicle donation is an easy, no-hassle way to make a tax-deductible contribution to a worthy cause while avoiding the trouble and expense of selling a used vehicle.  Now you can support APAH by donating your vehicle through Vehicles for Charity (VFC).

It's simple and easy. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, recreational vehicles and campers are accepted.  Pick up of the vehicle at your home or office is free.  APAH and VFC will provide the donation documentation you need for your records.

Designate APAH as your charity of choice and just complete the online form at
www.vehiclesforcharity.org  or you may call

GoodSearch

What if APAH earned a penny every time you searched the Internet or shopped online? Well, now we can!

GoodSearch.com is a new search engine that donates half its revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. You use it just as you would any search engine, and it's powered by Yahoo!, so you get great results.

GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall which donates a percentage of each purchase to APAH. More than 100 great stores including The Gap, Best Buy and Barnes and Noble have teamed up with GoodSearch and every time you place an order, you'll be supporting APAH and affordable housing in Arlington.

Just go to www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing as the charity you want to support. And, be sure to spread the word!
