PCMA New England members showed up in full-force, with 48 people in attendance for our Spring Education Program hosted by the Liberty Hotel Boston.

Michele Wierzgac, M.S.Ed., gave a spectacular presentation on job security and how to bring attention to the value of what you do. Her presentation focused on strategic differences to position your organization for the future, align your focus with key organizational strategies and better understand your value to the business model.

Michele provided Ten Strategies to Become Indispensable at Work:

  1. Marketplace - understand your organization's history, culture, products and services to showcase your care and concern for its well-being.
  2. Owner - know your job description, honor your commitments, lead with "I know" versus "I didn't know....."
  3. Beyond - do it right the first time, take initiative, going beyond what helps the organization and helps you!
  4. Skills - invest in your professional development and ask your company to do so as well. Invest your skills, manage your portfolio, build a balanced resume and set career goals.
  5. Communicate - think about how your message will be received. Communicate based on facts, not your thoughts.
  6. Coaching - self correct, seek clarification, communicate needs and mentor others.
  7. Positive - be a team player, do the best you can, smile and embrace change.
  8. Networks - leverage both formal and informal networks, showcase yourself and others.
  9. Leadership - ask for opportunities, be authentic and approachable.
  10. Reputation - you must earn credibility, do not expect it! Showcase your talents but always think of others first. Behave fairly and ethically.

In addition to the education program, attendees were asked to bring gently worn professional clothing to donate to Dress for Success. We were successful in collecting several racks of clothing!

Our thanks to the Liberty Hotel Boston for their generous hospitality, to Starwood Hotels of Boston for their sponsorship of the education program, and to David Fox Photography for taking pictures of the event!

Spring Education Program Recap: Lunch & Learn Webinar with Jonathan T. Howe & Joan Eisenstodt

Our spring education program was a tremendous success with registrants from across New England and the U.S. for our online webinar with Jonathan T. Howe and Joan Eisenstodt.

The theme of the program was The New Normal - Negotiating Venue Contracts in the Current Economy. Kevin Panetta of onPeak: High Performance Housing and Dean D'Anna of Starwood Resorts moderated the discussion, which focused on current hot button issues in facility negotiations and on how planners and suppliers can better communicate to reach satisfactory agreements.

5 Reasons Why NOW Is the Time to Join PCMA New England!

Donna Wolfe, Membership Chair for PCMA NE, shares five reasons why NOW is the time to get involved with the New England chapter!

  1. Education - Are you at a plateau in your expertise with no time to seek out esoteric answers? PCMA NE delivers a peek into experienced minds and how they accomplish things brilliantly. Our education programs are packed with cutting-edge information from top industry experts. From systems change to the latest in industry technology, we are on top of what you will want to know for YOUR future!
  2. Community Service - Whether it's volunteering at the Boston Food Bank or collecting clothing for Dress for Success, we actively participate in the betterment of our community. "Elevate the body and the mind will follow," Gandhi said, and our members can attest to the rewards of working in the volunteer "trenches" with our colleagues.
  3. Networking - Through PCMA-NE you will have the opportunity to develop long-lasting industry connections. The exchange of ideas are rich and satisfying.
  4. Support the Industry - If you've asked the question, "How can I make a difference in the success of our industry? What can I bring to the discussion? Or, how can I share my leadership?" PCMA NE provides rich opportunities for both personal and professional growth and the opportunity to contribute to the industry at-large.
  5. Have fun! - Are you attempting to bring balance into a tough, demanding work schedule? We are here with levity, positive perspective and fun in our hearts to share with you!
