Spring Education Program Recap:
Ten Strategies for Becoming Indispensable at Work - Maximizing Your Value |

PCMA New England members showed up in full-force, with 48 people in attendance for our Spring Education Program hosted by the Liberty Hotel Boston.
Michele Wierzgac, M.S.Ed., gave a spectacular presentation on job security and how to bring attention to the value of what you do. Her presentation focused on strategic differences to position your organization for the future, align your focus with key organizational strategies and better understand your value to the business model.
Michele provided Ten Strategies to Become Indispensable at Work:
- Marketplace - understand your organization's history, culture, products and services to showcase your care and concern for its well-being.
- Owner - know your job description, honor your commitments, lead with "I know" versus "I didn't know....."
- Beyond - do it right the first time, take initiative, going beyond what helps the organization and helps you!
- Skills - invest in your professional development and ask your company to do so as well. Invest your skills, manage your portfolio, build a balanced resume and set career goals.
- Communicate - think about how your message will be received. Communicate based on facts, not your thoughts.
- Coaching - self correct, seek clarification, communicate needs and mentor others.
- Positive - be a team player, do the best you can, smile and embrace change.
- Networks - leverage both formal and informal networks, showcase yourself and others.
- Leadership - ask for opportunities, be authentic and approachable.
- Reputation - you must earn credibility, do not expect it! Showcase your talents but always think of others first. Behave fairly and ethically.
In addition to the education program, attendees were asked to bring gently worn professional clothing to donate to Dress for Success. We were successful in collecting several racks of clothing!
Our thanks to the Liberty Hotel Boston for their generous hospitality, to Starwood Hotels of Boston for their sponsorship of the education program, and to David Fox Photography for taking pictures of the event!
