Where IT gets done!

June 2011

Greetings!

In April I wrote about the way that IT departments were dealing with the influx of tablets and the consumerization of the IT process. This month I am pleased to bring you some follow up information on best practices. In May, I talked about migrating to the cloud with Google Apps and now, Microsoft is going to be releasing Office 365 - in what the promoters of mixed martial arts fighting matches would call the ultimate smack down contest. I want to introduce you to a new breed of service- how you can use organizations that can help you with both licensing and migration to either Google or Microsoft and- news about the strengths of each. I also want to share some great news- SNET Telecommunications received a prestigious Computerworld Honors Laureate Medal at a gala awards ceremony in Washington DC.

Tablets are taking the Enterprise by Storm- do you have what it takes to integrate them?

Tablet ComputerThe leading industry consulting group, Gartner, expects 69.8 MILLION tablets will be shipped in 2011. A lot of these will wind up within the confines of your business. In this interesting article from Computerworld, see how companies used their experiences in integrating iPhones and other smart devices to create an easy (or easier) integration path for tablets.

June 28th - Clash of the Titans in the Cloud - Microsoft 365 versus Google Apps

I remember- and will probably never forget- the boxing matches when I was just a boy- the "Thrilla in Manila" or "The Rumble in the Jungle". Pretty soon, older and wiser supposedly, we will see the next big battle. It'll be The "Clash in the in the Cloud". Contestants are the new behemoths - Microsoft and Google - vying for monthly market share of your desktop and duking it out with a lot of verbiage that would make Don King or the great Howard Cosell proud. Here is an interesting article from Information Week that sheds some interesting light on the upcoming bout!

-NET Wins Computerworld Laureate Award for Q Box
Alex Fayn at Computerworld

S-NET Communications received the prestigious Computerworld 2011 Honors Laureate Medal at a formal ceremony held at the Mellon Auditorium in Washington D.C. Alex Fayn, President of S-NET Communications, accepted the award from the committee. Founded in 1988, The Computerworld Honors Program is governed by the not for profit Computerworld Technology Awards Foundation. It is the longest running global program to honor individuals and organizations that use technology to promote positive social, economic and educational change. Recipients of the awards attended the gala from the Phillipines, Turkey, Israel, India, The Netherlands and from companies across the United States.

S-NET Communications was nominated for the award in the category of Emerging Technologies. The development of the S-NET Q Box and its deployment on the Silver Networks Hosted IP Platform allows organizations to utilize lower cost bandwidth to have reliable business communications. This means that businesses and organizations can utilize less expensive circuits such as cable or DSL regardless of the provider, instead of costlier dedicated circuits, without sacrificing quality or reliability.

For the past 18 years, Prime has helped businesses and organizations communicate better- clearly, reliably and economically.

Read, check it out and distribute- and above all, protect your users.

Sincerely,

Vic Levinson

Office vs Google

Prime Telecommunications has

announced a partnership with Apliva, an authorized reseller of Google Apps™  and the Microsoft Office 365 suite of communication and collaboration tools. Through this partnership customers will be able to leverage their existing relationship with Prime Telecommunications to more effectively evaluate and adopt cloud technologies.

The main benefit of Google Apps and Office365 is that users of these products can access their email and all other associated tools from literally any place in the world as long as they have Internet access. There is also a cost benefit as there is no hardware to purchase or software to download, install or maintain on servers.

While Prime Telecommunications continues to enhance its core voice and unified communications solutions, this partnership provides an additional avenue to provide value to its customers.

Many of our clients have expressed a need for and are ready to take advantage of cloud-hosted information technology services. As a part of the launch of this partnership, we are extending a special consulting offer to all Prime Telecommunications clients.  Through this special offer, the Apliva team will meet with you 1 to 1 and help you understand the differences between Microsoft Office365 and Google Apps.  Then we will create a customized benefits analysis to help you make sure you choose the right path.
