"I dedicate a lot of time, focus, and passion to my photography and my travels around the world. This allows me to continually refine my production and achieve excellence in my main area of expertise: landscapes. My work Martres Imageranges from starkly minimalist compositions to complex abstracts, my years in Japan having had a profound influence on my sense of esthetics and my vision of form and color. This is reflected in my style, which is more akin to painting than photography with its combination of bold colors, unique textures and a striking sense of depth."
Victor Masayesva
Victor Masayesva HS Victor was born to the Coyote Clan and raised in Hotevilla, Arizona on the Hopi Third Mesa. After elementary school on the Hopi reservation, he attended the Horace Mann College Preparatory School in New York City. He graduated from Princeton University in 1976 with a BA in English literature.

It was during his college years that he was introduced to photography through the influential teaching of Emmett Gowin. After two years of graduate school in interdisciplinary studies at the University of Arizona he was motivated to return home due to family and village responsibilities. His subsequent immersion back into village life and the influence of Hopi history and culture prompted his independent pursuit of photography and later, filmmaking.

Masayesva's grasp of the Hopi language and thought coupled with his natural visual instinctsVasayesva Image intensify his photographic explorations. Yet he cannot be forced into the category of "Native American Photographer" because he produces images that articulate innovative composition and historical elements that predate the modern use of the term Native American, (which specifically denotes position identity in the United States). The history of Hopi Civilization in its formation is the source of his focused studies through which he has created a photo-genesis passageway into the migration paths of his Hopi Ancestors.

Today, Victor Masayesva continues his active involvement in the cultural activities of his community and works as a farmer, photographer and filmmaker.

Floris van Bruegel
Floris van Bruegel HS Floris' inaugural experience in the outdoors was a trip to the Grand Canyon at a few months old, where his parents 'baptized' him as a son of nature under the sprinkling Ribbon Falls. They may have gotten more than they bargained for. It wasn't until two decades later, however, that his love for nature culminated in him picking up a camera. Today he cannot imagine a more fulfilling experience than standing atop a wilderness mountain peak at the break of dawn, watching the stars melt into pastels that soon transform into the warm rays of the rising sun. He spend as much time as he can in the outdoors, searching peaceful locations for sensual and elegant compositions that also tell a story of natural history.

His images have been featured worldwide including three winning images in the BBC Wildlife Van Bruegel ImagePhotographer of the Year competition in 2009, a full feature article in Living Bird Magazine, Digital Photo Magazine UK, and upcoming publications in German magazines Naturfoto and Geo. He is also a moderator for the landscape forum of the Nature Photographers Network.
