My Stoke Insight
MY STROKE OF INSIGHT
by Jill Boylte Taylor, Ph.D.
One of the best books we have read in awhile that captures the elements of our teachings, from the scientific and metaphysical aspects.  A gift to the planet!

AUGUST RUSH

If you haven't seen this movie, or you are just looking to feel GOOD we encourage you to get it now!  Some one who has a deep metaphysical understanding gives us a lovely story to believe in the powers of the Universe.  We are connected!

Greetings!

September has evolved from a month I dreaded as a child, to one of my favorite months of the year.  Here on Cape Cod it is truly a magnificent month! The cool dry air settles in around the same time as a sense of quiet does, as summer vacationers have returned to their daily schedules.  I love the brightness in the light, the soft shadows from the tilt of the Earth, the stillness that washes over everything, including me.

September is my time to reflect, "catch up", dream and play.  Don and I are off to play the week of Sept 20-26th as we travel up through Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.  We'll be participating in a yoga retreat for teachers on the 20-21, then off to vacation.  What a treat.

We will be running classes through Oct 11.  Linda Harmon will be subbing the Yin class on Sept 24th, thank you Linda.  Come enjoy a wonderful teacher with a quality of Yin that permeates her teachings.

Don and I will be teaching the rest of the classes on Saturdays and Wednesday evenings.  Don't forget to join us Sept 20th for the Global Mala Project!  Whether you will be there in person, want to commit to 108 sun salutations or want to donate directly, your participation is greatly appreciated!  Every penny counts.

Global Mala Project II -

It's officical, Key West classes will be kicking off November 10th.  We are returning to the beautiful Ft. Zachary Taylor State Park, to share our yoga teachings under the pines, along the sea.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

From Student to Teacher;
Reflections on becoming a yoga teacher
by Daniela Menardi
Note from Nancy:  On completion of Yoga on the Beach's teacher training  program Daniela submitted this beautiful reflection of her journey.  It is a wonderful account of one women's journey into herself, and the gifts she discovered that will be shared as a teacher.  Enjoy!

I began teaching a Stretch and Meditation class for my clients at the Care Center for Mental Health well before I ever even considered taking a Yoga teacher training, last July.  When I started the training, and through my own ongoing practice, I feel that I developed a deeper understanding of the innumerable benefits and inner knowledge the practice of Yoga is offering.

I learned to use breath, and I began introducing the focus on it in my teaching.  I learned to relax and let go a little more with every practice and I began to transmit this concept to my students, by gently reminding them of the importance of allowing, opening, deepening, holding and breathing.  I learned to shift my focus to look at and pay attention to my students, taking their cues, tuning into their needs, limitations, and edges.  I learned to continue to provide positive reinforcement and feedback, communicating to them the importance of respecting and listening to their own bodies and conditions.

The main thing that has changed for me from the first class to the tenth and on, is my sense of confidence, an ability to relax more within myself and to let go of some (some!!) of my perfectionist way of approaching tasks and endeavors.  I have begun to be able to look more at the students instead of just being inside "my practice", and to feel the narrowing of a purely mental gap between "I" as a teacher and "them" as the students.  We teach each other, we learn from each other, we practice together, we share a special time and energy.  I feel honored by the students' presence and attendance.  I am more relaxed and trusting of myself and the guidance within me.

As I continue to teach, I hope the vastness and richness of the yogic life will continue to infuse my way of being, on and off the mat, in my thinking, believing, experiencing, acting, relating to others, and being in the world.
I look at teaching as one of many ways of learning, changing, evolving on my spiritual path: practicing, studying, and teaching Yoga will continue to support me on the journey.

Sharing my experience through teaching Yoga is exciting to me, as is the awareness that there will be always new learning going on, new openness to explore, more integration to be had. Through continuing to teach, I am continuing to open to saying "yes!" to life!!!!

In Appreciation,

Nancy Curran
